OK, so I really want to start getting in to wakesurfing, but I just can't justify spending over $300 on something that I will only use as a break between wakeboard runs. See, I don't own a surfboard either, and I would also like to get into ocean surfing. The boards look so similar that it seems like I could just get one and do both.
So I guess my question is: has anybody tried ocean surfing on a wakesurf board? Or how about the other way: has anybody tried wakesurfing on a surfboard?
From what I've heard, the Inland Surfer Green Room seems like it would be the best crossover wakesurf board. Does anybody else have any suggestions? Has anybody tried switching over like that?

Thanks,

Mike

PS - Sorry if this topic has been covered before. I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I can imagine it would be quite difficult to paddle into waves on a wakesurf board, seeing as they are substantially shorter than even your standard shortboard. You'd probably be better off buying a real surfboard and using it to wakesurf...I've seen a few pros using some Al Merrick shapes to wakesurf.

I have only wakesurfed on my ocean surfboard.Used to do it years before I ever tried wakeboarding or I guess it was skurfing back then.Point is any surfboard will work fine.I've seen people on longboards(pretty boring but works) but I've always used a shortboard.Do some research on surfing to decide what kinda board you want and let that dictate your purchase.Anything will work behind the boat in the ocean is a little trickier....

don't think you could use a wakesurf in ocean surfing, you'd be too heavy to get a slow start and ride down a wave....the board would be too unstable. I'm not saying it has never been done but I think it would be a major pain in the @$$. I've also taken my ocean board behind a boat...its a blast.

It could be done, but learning to ocean surf on a such a short board is going to be really tough.

Another option would be to get a beginner`s-type surfboard, one that is made from dense foam and a little thicker than normal. You wouldn`t have to worry about dings when wakesurfing, they`re a little shorter and wider than usual surfboards and if you get one with interchangeable fins, you can put small ones in for when you wakesurf and larger ones for ocean use. You also don`t have to worry about hurting yourself with a hard and sharp surfboard.
Not the coolest thing to be rocking up to the beach with, but hey? Razz

Surfboard. Better if you can get both. Try ebay. I have seen some pretty cheap.
