I was reading the new alliance today and I came across the article where they are starting to get a high powered winch and use that to get pulled across the water. It seems like a pretty cool idea just cuz' you can set up at random places they you may not always be able to get a boat to. Has anyone ever tried boarding with a winch or something similar?

the article has aaron reed doing an acid drop off a big drain pipe, it looks cool I just think it would be a pain having to re-set the line and run around the perimeter of the lake.

| they have this system in Germany. It's pretty popular. the problem is that you have one speed and if you crash you get out of the lake and walk back to the beginning. This is how it was in Germany, with a lot of people on the line at one time spaced out accordingly.

Tell me more!
Our lake has a section that is not that big and boats can't get into it....
I could easily hook something like this up from one end to the other since I now own all the land the surrounds it.
I think it would be great for a slider park style setup for those weekends when the lake is packed with tubers.
Is it a special wench?
I assume you need one to go a certain speed in order for it to work.

J_DOGG, i assume its a special winch because the winches I know of that are put on trucks/suv are very slow....the ones coming out for wakeboarding were said to be around 1400 bucks so I guess they're designed to pull faster

| Yeah they use the wench in Sfumato and it looks like it works very well. I think the wench is a rad idea and a good piece of machinery.

I never have seen Sfumato or what type of wench they use there but the wench for my jeep pulls 14 ft/min under load. The wenches used in cable parks are powered by electric motors probably 50 or 60 hp atleast and they run about $90,000 each. You can get a nice rig for that.

Cable parks dont use winches- they use a reciprocating cable pulley system. Winches have basically wind up and have to be unwound before reuse.
yeah... for 90 grand, you can get a nice boat, trailer, and matching tow vehicle!
