|
|
Hello ........
Does anyone know of any where that I can hire a decent Wakeboarding boat for 7 days on Lake Powell?.....
As I'm from the uk I am finding it difficult to see anywhere on the internet at all... I'm going at the beggining of September probably... or the end of August.
Any help would be good help..
Cheers

Well, there's not much around there. Page Arizona may have some boat rentals that aren't house boats. Also, Off Shore Marine up by Ticaboo may have something.
Remember, it's a few hours drive, by car, from Page to Ticaboo. 90+ miles by boat. House boats run about 4-5 mph. Nothing, and I mean nothing, but desert in between.
What marina are you going to be going out of? Wahweap, Bullfrog, Halls or Hite? |

you can hire me and my boat if you have some extra single women for me!!!
I cant think of anywhere to get a good wakeboarding boat down there. My neighbors own Offshore Marina and I am pretty sure they dont deal with anything like that. I will look into it though. |

| Fraz...it will propably be easier to hook with someone locally with a boat. Even in the most popular boarding areas in the western US dont have wakeboard boat rentals. Or for what I have seen. |

Well, I hope you at least already have the house boat lined up. I'd go to the visitlakepowell site and check for availability.
House boats are generally booked a year in advance. I don't know about the power boats though.
Bogden, we gotta talk! |

yeah houseboat rentals go really fast but i already have 2 rentals goin. one in late june and another in the middle of august!!yeehaw plus i might get to go in the spring but we would just camp. i dont know of any wakeboard specific rentals at any of the marinas so you would have to go to a city which is pretty far out. go to the bullfrog or halls crossing marina and i would drive your boat up to the hite area. best water conditions and there are hardly any people up there cuz the lakes so low. have fun its an awesome place. |

fraz,
i go to lake powell quite a bit... there are boat rental places in page, az. check the yellow pages and then make some calls to see if any have towers/fly-highs, etc. also check the yellowpages for boat rentals in flagstaff, az. there might be some there (and they might even have better deals.) the run-about rental boats at aramark are crap. i got a free one last year with the houseboat rental. it was great to have because you could do anything to it and it didn't hurt it (atleast it didn't hurt it any more than it already was torn up) ...but it wasn't much good for any serious wakeboarding. DON'T worry about the water level! when the lake has 400-600 feet of water to start with, being down 100 feet doesn't matter much. there will be a few places you can't go, but still many places you can. the san juan river is one of my favorites! ...but tough to do with a houseboat on a 7 day trip. i just did it last year with a 10 day trip and it was awesome. (it take 1.5 - 2 days to get there from wahweap).
luck! email me if you have any questions.

WHAT???? 1.5 - 2 days? It's a 8-9 hour house boat drive from Bullfrog. That's my favorite spot too. Right past the goose neck and before the first canyon on the East side is a great spot for one or two house boats and their ski boats.
Glad I don't have to use Wahweap I guess. Denver is only an eight hour drive to Bullfrog.
Once you're at San Juan, do you use Dangling Rope? We've found that the quickest marina from there. Unless you're doing a day trip north of Halls. |

legg,
it's been a while since i put in at bullfrog... yeah, the first day by the time you get the houseboat, load it up with everyone and everything it's always around 12 or 1pm before you leave the marina. we'll go a few hours upstream and stop for the night somewhere around west canyon. then the second day we'll head further upstream, top off the tanks at dangling rope and then on to the san juan. from there it depends how far up you go. ...i like to go up pretty far (atleast for a houseboat). the last couple of years we were around piute canyon.
ummmm..... i gotta stop thinking about this.....
yeah, dangling rope is the closest marina. and it's still a haul!!! this last time we carried about 120 gallons of fuel in gas cans for the ski boats. i think we only made two trips down to dangling rope to fill up.
later,

Ah, makes sense now. I'm a bit different, we're loaded and hauling down the lake by 8:30-9:00 a.m.. We take full advantage of early check in also ( the night before ).
I make sure the group gets up REAL early. Don't waste my vacation time
We usually set up at out point so the run to Dangling Rope for gas, beer and ice can be done early morning. Leave about 5:30 and get some runs in on the way to D.R. That way, we're back by 9:00. Then we'll take day trips up the San Juan. We also always bring 6 Jerry cans, so we're pretty loaded down on the way back.
I gotsta quit now too. Don't think I'll be headed down until September - if the water level's OK. I see they do not recommend launching out of Hite anymore. |
