Wanted to know if this was a good deal? 2004 Tige 22i w/ Phat Budde tower, Bimini, radio, boat cover, Taps and Extreme trailer w/ disc brakes for $42,000 + tax, lic.
On the website its around 36,500 w/o trailer and tower.
I have never bought a boat and I dont know where abouts I should be at MSRP to know if I am getting a good deal or not. Looking for input.
Thanks for your help. |

| Is it brand new? That sounds like a decent deal, I really like that boat, for a direct drive it has a lot of storage and with a few fatsacs it throws a mean wake. |

Your dealer should be able to itemize everything on that boat for you. If it starts at 36,500...then, by the time you add everything including trailer, yes the 42,000 is normal. Everything on the list is most likely MSRP, just ask the dealer for the prices, there is no secret between msrp and what they are charging. They may not give you cost, but at least you can see you are not paying full on MSRP. Some dealers will even itemize out their discount for you. Just depends on who you are dealing with.
Also, the difference between the riders edition and the limited edition is fairly significant....not that it would make or brake a deal, but if you want to know where all of the costs are coming from, it's worth knowing.
Is that Canyon Lake Texas? If so, i'm assuming you're dealing with Ski Dock here in austin, Damon will take care of ya. No worries there. _________________ www.under360.com |

| That is not a good deal. You could get a Malibu for that price. Just my opinion though. |

| That's assuming you think Malibu is an upgrade, I personally think Malibu is of lower quality. Just my opinion. |

assuming thats new (since it IS an '04), thats a pretty good price. I was quoted 48k on the 22v that I'm getting, but thats with ballast, tower of power, bow cushion, '04 cage, Perf Pass, heater, 335hp vortec, etc.
I'm thinking of having the stereo deleted, and putting in a custom Alpine setup, since I've got friends that manage a shop. I had them do my previous truck, and the sound was SICK!!!
As far as Tige vs Malibu, thats going to be a matter of opinion... Personally, I prefer Tige', due to the width of the beam, interior, construction materials, features, lifetime hull warranty, and price (vs. CC and MC)... not forgetting TAPS, and the convex hull design. _________________ I eat Vegans. Yes, it is new. He said that the price went up in 04. Now its the GM Vortec motor instead of the Mercruiser. Thanks everyone for the input. This is my first time buying a boat and I wasnt sure if its a wheel and deal kinda thing in the boat industry as well. I am sure my sales person is an honest guy.
Jeffro, I am actually in Canyon Lake CA.
MissJade, Malibu's are very nice boats but I have always wanted a Tige since I first saw one. Just my preference. |

ssrgeoff, just an FYI- Tige' didn't have a price increase for '04... Thats according to both Tige' and the dealer here. _________________ I eat Vegans. Medium-Rare.

| We test drove just about every boat and we felt the Tige' was by far the best boat on the market. It is more expensive then others but I am really happy with the boat.I bought a 24V from the same Tige' dealership and I can tell you they were awsome to deal with. Who is your salesman? What lake do you ride on? |

| Hmmm... I will have to mention that about the price increase. Definately a good dealership to work with. I am going there tonight to get the final as far as pricing since I may not go through there lender. My credit isnt the best and I know that banks only want to approve you with a 700 score on 10% down. So I am going in with 65% down and finance the rest. Then I can post a picture in about 4-6 weeks when it gets here. |

65% down! sounds like you can just about get approved anywhere you want.
i would say you should at least be able to talk them down 3-5% from what they are asking. Nothing wrong with asking what their invoice is vs. what they are selling it for. They'll either tell you, or tell you to go away. But if they want your money, they'll do the smart thing. Especially during the winter months when sales typically slow down. _________________ www.under360.com |

dont put 65% down on a boat, its a depreciating asset. make the down payment to meet the requirements, add more if you want to reduce the monthly payment. putting $27K down on a boat is crazy, go to the bank and invest the money, if you need to get out of the boat and need to pay, then use the money. _________________ So are you still drinking?

Thats what I am hearing but your credit score has to be 700 or more from what I am hearing. Unfortunately, I am below that so I have to put enough down that the lender doesnt see me as a risk. Got to love credit ratings!!
Once the house gets refinanced my sales person is going to run a few numbers to see where I can get in at. Anyone know of any good lenders? |

is the V-drive more expensive than the D-Drive? I've heard many quotes much higher than that last year for an '03. So judging on that, its a damn good deal _________________ I'm telling you its jobs,

ssrgeoff,
Whoever told you that you need a 700 or better to get a good rate on a boat is a idiot! As long as you aren't under a 640 or so, you should still be able to get a good rate with a minimum down payment.
I agree with Belmont...put down only enough to make the payment where you want it and put the rest to work for you. Anyways, good luck and great choice!

Inggy, yes v-drives usually do cost more,
ssrgeof, you can find local lenders and nationwide lenders as well. depends where you are. stick to marine lenders the process is just easier. Find a good one and apply, dont check with more than one, every time they run your credit it shows. I would bet that 75% of the US population doesnt have 700+ credit score. _________________ So are you still drinking?

| Credit under 700 is above normal risk. If your credit is around 640 a lot of banks and creditors will not consider you at all. It is not difficult to have a score in excess of 725, all you have to do is pay your bills and not over extend you credit. Regardless of the collateral or loan to value, risk is risk. |

ssrgeoff, schedule a counseling session with your CPA and discuss financing options. Trust me, it will be well worth ~$100 at most in fees. Each person is different. Just make sure you take a sample invoice in of what you are going to get. _________________ My opinion is my opinion!

| I would agree with the statements about putting the money to work for you as opposed to paying it up front. I disagree with taking it to the bank for this as interest rates are at all time lows. I work at a financial planning office in San Luis Obispo and really after years of experience, I feel the market, however fickle it can be, will not do you wrong. It's all about smart mutual fund investments designed for the long term, then you will be able to pay most of the interest with the dividends you have earned from your investments. Shameless plug should follow, but NO, "I will resist".... |

A lot of people would not agree with paying interest on a depreciating asset below is an example of how it might pay off. Though it is clear you can make a lot of money in the market there is no garuntee.
$40,000 boat at 5.5%, monthly payment of $434.11 for 10 yrs (120 mnths) = a total out of pocket of $52,093.20
$40,000 invested earning an everage of 8% over 10yrs will equal $79,959.48
At the end of the 10 yrs you have made a lot of money but you still have to show your cost of financing. $79,959.48 - $52,093.20 (cost of fincancing) = $27,866 profit, now you owe the government for capital gains. $39,959.48 (total gain) x 20% long term capital gain = $7,991.90 your total profit is $19,874.10 over 10 yrs.
Some people would still prefer to not have the debt. Keep in mind if you want a new boat now that the 10 yrs is up there is hopefully still value there. Now it is up to you to calculate what your rate will be, what you think you could consistently earn in the market, and most important how long you paln to keep the boat. How long you keep the boat is really the key. |

I completely understand now that I would be throwing money away if I paid for the boat in full. I do have to take in consideration my credit. (Too much debt to income) since my wife has alot of credit cards mine is the one always ran for the new car, house etc. So now mine is racked up. I guess I will just have to wait and see what the lender would want down and how much I can afford on a monthly basis. Since I would upgrade the boat after a few years of ownership. Thanks for all the good advice. I will let you know what happend as soon as the home refinance completes. Since I will be running down to the dealer to order my boat. |

You gotta get that lady reined in. Please for the love of GOD, DO NOT LET HER PICK THE COLOR!!!!!!! I've heard of that happening, it's like this. You "Honey I've decided that we need a new ski boat", Her "well if you are going to get a new toy then I get to pick it out", (enter fork in the road) you#1 "yes dear, that's a great idea" or you#2 "ummm, no, this is my toy, I work my A$$ off and frankly dear I do NOT want a purple boat." All of this is of course hypothetical and the dame may be really nice, if not re-read the above again, and then read it one more time.
Another pointer is wait til February when they have the LA Boat Show, all the dealers throw in "Show incentives" that will end up being worth your while. When my pops bought his Mastercraft they upgraded the engine for free and threw in some other stuff as well. They'll either do that or have a much lower price. Plus you can check out all the boats at once as they are all in a small area. droooooll, I love the boat show, mmm all the newest stuff aarrgghhh |

haha.... Thanks Stephan.
I asked about that as well, I was told that they will give me a "boat show" deal since they need to move so many boats during the winter months. I can wait but I know the deal I am getting now and it seems pretty reasonable. I might actually after all said and done is upgrade to the 22V. Ohh and I get to pick the color as well. |

phweww!! THANK GOD!! just don't pick purple, Socal has it's characters... I guarantee you will love your new boat, I'd vote for the v-drive. When spring/summer hits, you should take it out to Havasu. That way I can test your new boat, that would be good times |

Are you buying from Tige in riverside/corona? If so it's NOT a good deal! I got my 2002 22i loaded the same with perfect pass for 38,000. By the way after you buy your boat and your sh--t starts breaking that dealership sucks. While Tom will tell you durring the buying process that if anything breaks, bring it in, "no problem man" as soon as you buy it you are dog sh--t and warranties aren't covered and you will want to murder someone. The boat is dope but little things break like switches, glove box hinges etc. and they want to charge you three hundred bucks for a molded plastic glove box lid or your taps breaks and your the one paying to get it fixed. If Tom still works there tell him to suck it! _________________ DL |
