Dependsd on how pissed the car owners are. If it were my car, it would be possible to let the charges stand and also get a civil suit going.

Also it all depends on what he's said and what kind of evidence they have against him. If you keep your mouth shut when you get arrested and get a decent attorney you can almost always get off if there is no victim. At worst get proby.
If it's his first offense and he was just jumping on cars i would say at most 6 months proby and 60 hrs. community service. That's in TX it's probably not as tough in Oregon.

Cops are a last resort when anything of mine gets vandalized. I've never called them either. If you see the person doing it go kick his ass right there. If you dont know who did it calling the cops probably isnt going to help.

That will work until you're out of college. Once your out in the "real world," fighting isn't really an option anymore. Win or lose the fight, you'll probably get arrested. I think if someone vandalizes your property you should have every right to kick their ass, but that is not the case in society these days. Once your old, best bet is to just call the cops...

Well, officer, I called you guys right after I stopped him from running away.

Barbed wire? Well, it's all I handy to truss the sun of a gun up with.

Bruises? Well, he probably hurt himself falling down so much.

Falling down so much? Well, I kept TRYING to pick him up, but then he'd squirm a bit more and I'd just have to drag him a bit further.

Drag him? Well now hey! Who the heck's the vandal here? I caught him red handed!

Seriously though, if it's first offense, probably not much. Now the owners of the cars may have some civil suits to bring against him.

OTTO, Old? Sho-ot man, I'm 44 and never have had any trouble. ( bury 'em deep, real deep )

If I catch anyone jumping on my vehicles they won't be jumping at all for a very, very long time, sorry but the police are usually only good for paperwork.

I agree the police probably won't do much and that you should be able to beat down any would be vandals, but you hear about things like this all the time:

Well it sound like you need some new people to hang wih or you might waiting to get bailed out instead waiting on somebody. The cops can help and if there are people around they can put you there with him or in anyway doing anything they can get you also. Trust me after a long drawn out court mess with my "best friend" total bill and fees where as follows 1 yr probation-130 hrs comunity service-$10,000 in fines crt cost and lost wages in OT. You make the choice all I did was drive threw a yard and banged on a door a "little".

Three Felonies? Nope, not good at all. Tell him to get a Lawyer.

Also, I'd seriously think about disassociating yourself from him. I now it may be tough, but I've had to do that a couple times with friends. It can get to a point where they drag you down with them.

Hopefully, he learns a lesson from this. Quite possibly something he needs and will learn to value in the future.

Nothing like being 50 years old and continously in jail. None of the guys friends will bail him out any more either.

Wouldn't 3 Felonies be 3 strikes in Cali? Seems a little harsh considering the crime.

Just for those who don't know, 3 Felonies in CA = 3 strikes and life in prison.

1st thing I think the three felonys have to be more separated

2nd thing I agree with STPHNSN23

3rd thing we argued in work about the three strikes deal, if you look at the cases, even the examples shown on the anti 3 strike webpages, all those people SHOULD be in jail for life.

There are alot of cases where people get the third strike for stupid stuff because they already have two, if you have two strikes and get caught shoplifting your done.

Ha Ha allright sorry I made you stupid. My bad. But I know it does seem harsh so thats what is wierd. You guys dont have to believe what I said I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what was gonna happen. He has court on Tuesday so if this forum is still around ill let you all know what happened. The reason they were felonys is because of the cost of each car he jumped on. Once the price goes so high it goes over Vandalism and goes to Michief.
