Ski Nautique 2001 Covers - Canvas - Questions...

Most peoples' stock covers for their 82-98 2001's are surely shot or getting near there. I see a lot of covers advertised in Overtons and Barts and so on, but I am wondering what the word on the street is concerning the covers for these boats. I have seen custom ones that are bad, and cheapies that are good...leaving me with some confusion. So let me break it down with this:

What is the best boat canvas to have for the 1982-1989 Ski Nautique 2001.

Erik, you basically can't beat the price of the covers found in Overtons or Barts. As far as quality canvas you should always buy Sunbrella. The company I work for deals with Sunbrella on a regular basis and it is the industry benchmark.

Those are pics of a custom cover my company made. I'll post the pics of my boats cover tomorrow when there is some light.

The problem is that I know there are covers out there that people must love - but I've seen custom ones, with buttons and all sorts of modifications that still fit so-so. My buddy dan has the best one I've seen. It was custom made, and the canvas people had to install buttons everywhere. And Dan swears up and down a generic one would have been better. I believe it. I am looking for info from 2001 owners out there who use their covers regularly to keep rain off, and keep the boat afloat...

I believe you about the sunbrella etc but a few pictures of a hydroplane boat are not quite what I was looking for I guess. Cover looks nice on that thing sure. But for a 2001 I feel like its a more complicated project...

I bought mine from a C.C. dealer. It fit perfect and covered the swim platform. When I got my tower I just had it modified to fit. It is not a cover I can trailer with. Check ebay, I see covers there almost every week to fit the 2001, they are always new in the box and go for $50-75. If I needed one I would start there. That is cheap enough to take a chance.

Yea those curves have to be more complex than a 2001. There are some covers for 2001s on ebay all the time but I don't know much about them.

My first cover for our 88 was like a quilt, different patterns sewn in all over to patch holes. The rope cinch wore through the pocket...it was ugly. Went on ebay found a lady selling a slightly used cover, picked it up for under 150. This thing was perfect and heavy duty grey canvas. As long as you put a pole or support under the cover, it will keep the boat very very dry, no sealers or anything put on it. I've trailered the boat with the cover on only a short distance/low speed. I'll try to find out who makes it, I'll post in the next few days. Here are some pics.

I bought a cheap one from Wal-Mart for $30 and it's been great. It stays on in rough weather and water seaps through it only after long periods of time. Wal-Mart had a supposedly more heavy duty one for around $80. But I'm glad I'm a cheapo.

Erik, I have a cover that I don't use anymore well never really used ever. It came with my boat and I never used it because I had my boat indoors. Now I have a tower and and I can't use it anyways. It's super thick and weighs a ton. I don't know the exact purpose (indoor/outdoor, outdoor, indoor) for the cover but I can try to find the brand,type,model,etc if you would be interested in it. It also has one of those poles with the straps that go from the front of the boat to the rear that allows the water to run off. If you are interested I will try to get you some info on it.

Bigmac I am interested!

I am getting a tower on mine too and I know I might be limiting my chances of buying yours.... but Eldorett on here had his modified with straps to accomidate his tower and it came out quite nicely. I was planning on doing the same when I get my tower.

Well I just pulled the cover out and looked it over better. It has some patch work and a few holes from the hooks that are attched to bungees that are connected to the cover. You will probly be better off just to go with a new one. Heres a pic anyways.

Glad to see you're on the right track. Snaps-ons are BAD. Seriously though, Ebay has them all the time. You can also buy that water-proof spray to apply to the cover too to help it keep the water out.
