I'm looking for thoughts about Alpine and MTX. I've had both in the past and love both of them my MTX stuff got stolen and decided to get the new Alpine Digital amps and Type R subs. Power on both of them are fantastic. Just looking for some other opinions about either. I've chosen these two brands because I've had them before and know what they are capable of and that they are awesome other than that no reason. I'm going to upgrade the stereo in my boat this winter and going to put in a new Mono amp for a 12" sub and and 4 channel for my factory speakers and a pair on the tower. For both of the amps and sub there is only like a 30 dollar difference between them. Anyone had a past experience with either product good or bad. I'm looking at the Alpine Type R 12, Alpine Mono 300 amp, and 540 4 channel amp. In MTX I'm looking at the 8000 series 12, Mono 421D amp, and 1004 4 channel amp. On the tower I've decided on the Wake Designs MB-Quart 3-Ways. They are the best I've found as far as looks and performace goes IMO. Oh yeah by the way you guys should check out the MTX page and look at their new 9500 sub it puts the JL W7 to shame sweet looking sub. Have to get a pair of those for the truck. Open to any ideas of set ups or brands that are better for what I'm doing. Yeah if you guys are looking for great deals and prices on stuff like this check out http://www.hookedontronics.com. Great place that's where I've gotten all my Alpine stuff. Haven't been able to find better prices anywhere else. If your worried about places like this don't be I was too but very suprised with the quality and services. No problems with any of my stuff yet. Going on a year. Thanks a lot.

zapco

all very clean and lots of power, especially when bridged. good stuff for subs.

Alpine all the way... I've got 2 1040D 10's that are going in my truck. Another possibility is Polk MOMO subs and components. I had 2 MM10 subs, MM465 components, and some Alpine 3-way 5x7s (dont remember the model num), in my previous truck ('00 F150 supercab), running an alpine head unit w/ alpine and fosgate subs. It was freakin' phenominal.

Anyways, the Alpine Type-Rs have dual voice coils, and some seriously heavy magnets.

MTX wont do you wrong, but Alpine runs more efficiently (i.e. cooler and w/ more power).

I have alpine components in my boat and I love them. I opted for the Type S subs as they were a little out of my price range. I am very satisfied with all my Alpine gear. I've been running Alpine stuff in my car for years without a problem and that's why I decided to put it in my boat.

Good luck with your decision.

I will probaby go with Alpine again don't think I could tear myself away from their digital amps now. So many possiblities and combinations with them, suggest you all take a look at them and visit that site I posted earlier if you are worried about money. You can't beat their prices as far as I've found. www.Hookedontronics.com. Good luck

this is a nice bang for the buck: (clean, lots of power, and lots of configurations can be done with it)
http://www.hookedontronics.com./show_product_details.jsp?cid=1019

make sure and not the ohm load that the specs are giving you. An amp that runs 300 watts at 4 ohms vs. and amp that runs 300 watts at 2 ohms can make a big difference.

when comparing power and price, there are many things to look for, one big one is the power per channel and the ohm and voltage for that power.

just because it says 75w x 4 @ 2ohms doesn't mean the same thing as 75w x 4 @ 4 ohms.

Yeah I know what you are saying Jeffros I was looking at one of these two.
Alpine 4 channel - http://www.hookedontronics.com./show_product_details.jsp?cid=1027
MTX 4 channel - http://www.hookedontronics.com./show_product_details.jsp?cid=4356
I like the MTX because my tower speakers are running at 4 ohms and that amps puts out like 125x4@4 ohms vs. the Alpine at only 80x4@4 ohms. Don't know yet we'll see. Might go with the MTX stuff anyways. I like to try to keep it all the same brand just a thing I have plus these are all about the same either brand for the same setup. I have had both of thier subs and amp are both great for sound an power. Who knows.

I would consider Rockford Fosgate, man. Rockford kicks ass, Im running two 12' punch HX2's in my car right now and i hit 151.4 decibals this past summer. Im powering them with the Rockford 700s. Im very pleased with the subs, the amp im not so sure.. its a powerhouse but i can never keep it cool enough.
