Is there any reason behind this question? Are you buying one or the other? Because otherwise there is no reason to just start another boat war...

Good point homie. Both are excellent boats. Are you looking at two of these? Can you give us some specs to compare etc?

I sold a 92 ski nautique and got a 2001 x-star. I put 350 hours in one year on the nautique and all it needed was gas, oil, and 100hr service (3 actually). The boat ran great and had no problems.
So far with the x-star I have put 100+ hours on in the last 4 months and I have had a bunch of little problems. The gagues totally suck, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. (oil press, temp, bat, tach) MC can't seem to fix them either. The bilge is designed poorly and water gathers under the fuel tank and won't drain back to the bilge pump. This caused the steering cable to corrode after only 100 hours. The center ballast tank split at the seem and needed to be replaced, and the transmission grinds pretty good going into gear. (MC says it's fine but they are full of crap, I am waiting for it to go on me)
All this and the boat only has 180 hous on it.
I think there may be a Super Air in my garage next summer.

I had this same problem a couple months ago. Since I had no idea what boat to get between a x-star and a 226 I decided to go out and test ride them. First when I went to go test drive the 226 it was great almost no problems at all. After riding in the 226 I went over to drive the x-star. BIG difference. The X-star had alot more problems wit the design. But the x-star did have a little bit bigger wake. But the 226's wake was not bad at all. It was perfect actually not to rampy or flat it was nice. The X-stars was more rampy. So as u can see i went with the 226. Wink

Didn't he start a thread EXACTLY like this in the General Forum? I think it's a ploy to start a boat war.

They're both good! How's that?

Ive had a chance to drive and ride behind both. I bought my 00xstar in 01 with 100 hours on for $28400, which now hows 398 hours on it as of today. I chose Mastercraft over natique because of price, I would be just as proud to have a Nautique I grew up riding behind them as well as Mastercraft. I do all my own maintenance and I have not had any major problems. The only thing I hate doing is tightening the shaft packing nuts because they are under the engine but so are all v drives, customer service is not a problem. The wakes are the same. I ride without any ballast and it is more than enough to throw flips and spins both have more than enough space inside and are plenty comfortable to drive. Its just preference, whatever floats your boat! The best time to buy is usually just after the new year because dealers have promo boats for sale which mine was, excellent deals, be careful and know what you are looking at because some are abused. Happy hunting Cool

onthewater, yeah..this must have been one of my firsts...

wakeboardpro10, I saw the X-80 at a boat show and it listed for something in the mid 80s...way over most peoples heads...Even the dealer said it wasn't a ski boat...more like a yacht... It is a nice boat...LIKE ALL OF THESE!!! but it is simply in a differrent catagory...gotta keep apples to apples...lol...
