If I had bindings sent USPS, then when they get to the border they'd go through the post office, so I'd have to visit my local office to pick them up correct? Or will they come to my door? Just wondering...

Sometimes they come to the door, sometimes they leave that little pickup slip in your mailbox to pick it up at your nearest postal outlet.

I could have done that, but I wanted to limit duties and brokers fees on the bindings...

Ont is right. Usually they will try the door first. If you are not home, they will leave a slip to pick it up at your convienience. For work I used UPS overnight and they friggin lost the shipment. It showed up 6 days late, but they told us they didn't know what happened as they couldn't trace it. Someone screwed up I guess. Only time I've ever had an issue with them.

I used to get skate stuff from the states all the time and it arrived quick, with no probs.

The best way to save duty..

a) have the shipper claim the value less that $20cad.. then there is no duty or brokerage..

b) Mark the item as a gift.. again no duty/brokerage..

You really get raped w/ duty and brokerage.. something valued $100usd sent say ups to a residential addy, is gonna cost $50 + whatever the shipping charges were.. RAPE I tell you..

If you can ship to a company you can also save.. they tend to bend residential customers over..

Not that I support making false customs papers.. b/c that would be fraud..

I disagree with your points based on my experiences alone. It may have more chance slipping through the cracks, but if they are suspicious or just open the package they'll assess whatever they think is the value of that item and tax you on that value. Items marked as 'gift' do not exempt them from fees.

One of these days when I get a chance I'm gonna phone and find out who/what/where/why they charge me these fees at RANDOM it seems.

You can disagree all you want..

You can't just mark the item as a gift.. you have to DECLARE it as a gift.. and persons are only allowed 1 gift / year.. and there is a cap on it's value as well ($50usd) is the max allowable gift.. The papers have to filled out correctly.. if the asshat on the other end doesn't know how to fill out the papers you'll get burned..

Chances are a big or heavy package marked as less than $20cad value will get opened.. but maybe they'll be lazy and let it through..

I like my odds better this way they doing nothing at all..

also different company's have different brokerage rates.. wich is why if you have a company account.. it's benificial.. they usually offer a standard fee.. which is a the same regardless of the items value.. duty and tax will always be variable.. but again business account... goods claimed for resale.. you save 1 tax..

Well, I had a TFD shipped here via UPS and it was sent gift and I didn't get tax or duty on it. I sent this set of bindings via USPS marked gift, so we'll see what happens with it. I don't really care, I just wanna get the PRS1s asap - even though I can't use them anymore. I just love getting new stuff!! Very Happy

The AS01s I bought are at my sister's in the states already, so I wanna make a trip down and 'visit' soon... haha...
