I'm getting an '04 22v and I was wondering about perfect pass... From what I know, it seems like a cruise control for pulling skiers- primarily for inexperienced drivers that dont know how to hold a constant speed. It may just be me, but I dont want an inexperienced driver pulling me... let alone driving my brand new $45k boat! This being said, wouldnt that negate the need for spending an extra grand or so on this?

I disagree Eric, a properly tuned PP will out perform a good driver every hour every day.

Definitely go with the perfect pass. I have a lot more fun driving with it than without it.

Ralph, I agree!!! I have been pulled by some great drivers but they still don't compare to a well tuned perfect pass!!!

experienced or not, you will thank yourself for getting it. It just makes pulling hassle free and allows you to enjoy your time on water that much more.

i'll be adding it to my 21i at the end of the year.

Buying a towboat without PP is a critical error in judgement. Do not leave the dealership without it. Besides being easier on the driver, and the rider getting the exact pull that rider wants every time, there is the safty issue. At our lake the smooth water can get a little crowded. PP enables the driver to look in front of the boat, (or behind to watch the rider) and not have to keep looking down constantly at the instruments. This is inherently safer for everyone.

With the possible exception of a tower, PP should be the first option you select.

Flash... excellent point! I hadnt thought of that... perfect pass it is! Smile

That being said, does anyone know which model PP tige installs? I'm assuming it's the wakeboard pro, but I'm curious enough to know for sure.

Get it. I bought my boat without it because I didn't want to spend the extra grand. A few weeks later I drove one with it, I went home and ordered it and a week later it was in my boat as well. I would never consider buying another boat without it. It makes driving much much easier. Your not constantally moving the throttle to adjust your speed. The system does it automatically.

I'm sure you could get any version of PP that you want, but they will usually recommend wakeboard pro. That's what I have on my Tige 20v and it's great. A little more expensive that wakeboard cruise but in my opinion it's worth it.

When you get it, take the boat out and calibrate the perfect pass with a gps. That way you know that 22 is really 22.

For wakesurfing Perfect Pass is awesome. And your 22v will put out an incredible wakesurfing wake, just load up the left rear locker with about 1000# and a few guys in the boat and you can surf all day. TAPS at 8 and speed about 10mph.

Ahhh, Eric you misunderstand, I am one with my boat, its the other morons who drive when I'm riding that I bought PP for! It totally sucks that everybody gets great pulls but the boat owner, but thats the reality for most boats without PP. Also for me it meant that my girl enjoys driving the boat, even when its busy, it takes a lot of the stress out of it for her, just for that alone PP pays for itself twice.

Love your Pro-V by the way.

Ralph,
Thanks-we love it too. Our second Calabria. Just messin' bro. I agree, PP is so the driver/owner gets a ride in. And for surfing, a must.
Ruune,
Get the PP. Wakeboard Pro version. Paddle wheel is much better than RPM.

We have pp on our X-star and at first i loved it, but then once we started weighting our boat down heavily (1500+lbs) it would always seem to be running slower than what we set it at. It is awesome to have, but we only use it if like, my little brother is pulling me, and even he doesnt use it that much.

i would never have a wakeboard boat with out perfect pass. it will always hold a consistent hold and thhe driver can concentrate on double ups or finding good water. plus with weight in the boat it works just as well.

I'm saying that its just not as responsive as it would be if say, i was driving it. Dont get me wrong, i love Perfect Pass, i would just rather be pulled by a good driver that can react to what i'm doing (ie, about to get worked).

I cannot wait to have a Boat with PP...hear me out...

I do not want a bad driver either, however, with PP the driver can be more aware of what is going on around and not have to be concerned whether or not heer is pulling you a the correct spped cause he is worrying that you may have a bad run.

I just believe that with ever increasing traffic in out rivers and lakes with the "weekend warriors" I would rather the driver not wory about how my run will be. Let him worry about what is going on with the other traffic and keeping you, the rider, out of harms way. Cool

So I have mixed feelings about PP. I've been in an X-10 with PP and it's nice on flat water cause you set it and just sit there and make sure you don't hit anything. But on chop or with winds, I find that if the boat is unsettled at all the PP tries to compensate when it doesn't have to, thus overpulling or slacking the rider. I have been on my ride w/o PP and, while nice to have eventually, I'm not going to jump to it. Reasons: a) in flat water, my boat simply tracks. 99 X-star, you throttle to 2300 RPM and it's like the speed is just set. Nothing for PP to do! And in choppy stuff the ride is smoother without it. So I see it really as a luxury for someone who knows how to drive a boat, but good for people who have some people pull them that aren't that savy about keeping speed/music/people in the boat/other boats/shore/docks/buoys all in their head at once.

I will say it's nice when you have to drive other than straight. i.e., it compensates for when you turn or otherwise aren't going perfectly straight.

Ruune,
I am in the process of working out a deal with my local Tige dealer as well. What I was told is when my dealer installs the Digital PP it goes right where the current speedo is, replacing it. That option was $1600. They also had a smaller version more like the cruise control in your car that you can mount in an open spot anywhere in the cockpit. Obviously the less desirable of the two and I was told they sell it for $800. Check with your dealer though pricing could be different.
