|
|
| Hey folks, I just wanted to share a little something I witnessed today. The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Wakeboard Club was heading out to Lake Nacimiento for a day ride, one of the boat drivers was making his way to the lake and someone in front of him was stopped in the road to turn into a driveway. He swerved to miss them and went off the road and down a small embankment, coming to rest into a tree. The truck is a little messed up, a control arm broke. The trailer is pretty jacked, wheels everywhere, fenders broke in half, just destroyed. The kicker is the boat did not stay on the trailer, the front of the boat was an inch from the trucks back window(it's a medium sized bed GMC), the hull totally crushed the tailgate and the back of the boat was resting on the front half of the trailer. I was told that there is a hole the size of a basketball in the hull from the hand crank. It was an early 90's Centurion. I think it would have been a lot better if the back of the boat was strapped down. Sorry no pics but maybe someone took some.

| That reminds me of a story. One time coming home from the cottage there was this huge traffic jam... we figured someone had really got cranked in a collision or something but when we finally got up to all the flashing lights and there's a huge cruiser the came off the trailer. It had skidded along the road a bit and everyone had stopped to take a look at this huge boat sitting in the middle of the highway.

Aren't you suppose to routinely strap down the back of boat? I know all the people I've ridden with do.
Maybe it would have be better to just wait for the car to complete it's turn than to swerve around it.

A lot of older boats don't have any rings or anything to attach straps or tie-downs.

From the context it sounds like he swerved to avoid hitting the car. The driver was probably going to fast to slow down.

| one day i was waiting to load my boat and the guy i was waiting on at the ramp didnt hook the bow onto the trailer very well or not at all and the boat slid off and landed on the ramp when he pulled forward. no major damage just scratched up the gelcoat.

Looks like the boat kinda saved that guy in the picture...if the boat/trailer hadn't gotten stuck up there the truck would have just gone tumbling down the cliff...not a fun situation.

I saw some dude loose his potoon once right in the middle of an intersection. I took about twenty or so of us to lift it back up on the trailer. Pretty funny stuff. Felt bad for him though.

I think I have something to add, today i was at Lopez Lake In Central Cal, and the Ranger boat was pulling this really huge balloon really slow. Once they got it to the ramp we noticed that there was tailights poking just above the surface. So I asked this one dude what was up... the story goes a fisherman was fishing near the shore from a boat and looked down and saw a tailight. The lake is below an 80 foot embankment with the road to the lake at the top. They did a small search and didn't find anyone in or around the car, but thought that the thing had been there for awhile They only found it cuz the lake is like 50% full(when in Cali you gotta be positive and think "the cup is half full"). So although not really related, just another example of someone F-ing up, that or they sunk the F-er and reported it stolen, so close to working, oops....

| If I'm only pulling my heavy inboard a few miles I usually just have it secured by the front winch. I think I may start strapping down the back now just in case..lol.
