Adobe Premiere Help

I have Adobe Premiere 6 and I can't figure out a few things. How do I make a clip slow motion? And is there anyway I can edit sound. ie. take a word or sound out of an audio cliP?

right click on the clip and go to "speed"
then enter a number less than 100 for the speed. 50=50% speed, 75=75% speed etc etc etc.
the slow motion will be smooth untill you go below 50% speed then it will get a bit jerky.

to edit sound what you do is right click on the clip and go to "unlink audio and video". then you can cut up the video part all you want just like you can do to the video.
remember once you have unlinked the audio and video they are independent of each other so if you move one of them the other will stay in the same place (and it wont be lined up anymore)

also don't forget to astually see it in slow motion, see transitions, and video effects you have to render the video. to do so just go to timeline on the top of the screen and then select render work area. switchrider80 is a very good person to get tips from. he's helped me tremendously.

If you want smoother looking slow motion, right click on the clip then select Video Options, Frame Hold. Then click on Deinterlace and Frame Blending.

Also, if you set the speed to a negative value it will run in reverse ( -100% equals normal speed backwards).

how do I fade in and out? Video and audio?

for the audio, you use "rubber bands" to change the level of the audio for a specific clip. Click on the > symbol next to Audio 1 and it will expand the audio view. The red line is the level and there is a red box at each end. Left click anywhere on the line to add another box, then drag the box up or down to control the level. So if you want to slowly fade the audio out starting 3 seconds from the end of the clip, left click on the red line 3 seconds from the end, then drag the last red box down to the bottom. I don't hear the change until I export the clip but it does work.

You can fade video the exact same way but the clip has to be on the Video 2 (or higher) level in order to have the rubber bands. If you have a clip on Video 1 and overlay it with one on Video 2 you can then fade between the two or merge the two using the rubber bands. Play with it and see how it works.

Have you learned how to import video using the batch capture mode? It's the quickest way to do it instead of using movie capture. Took me a while to figure it out.

Also, play with different transitions and effects on a short video clip to see how they work. Premiere has so many options that it will take a long time to figure it all out. If you are adding music you can mute the audio tracks of the clips by just clicking on the mute button for the audio track.

Haven't tried the batch capture, but I have played around with the effects and music quite a bit. I'll try batch capture tonight, thanks for the help Bill.

The easiest way to do the batch capture is to open Movie Capture, then set the in/out points you want captured and click on Log Capture. Continue to do this until you have all the clips you want captured logged, then go to the Batch Capture screen (it will have a log of all the in/out points you selected) and click on the Record button. It will now go back and record all of the clips. Much faster than recording each one because you can leave the computer while it's recording.

okay I got the batch capture working. Is it possible to make a video "flicker"? I don't know how to explain it other than that...

are you trying to link 2 clips back together after you have unlinked them? if so then you want to look on the upper left corner of your timeline and you will see 8 boxes arranged in a 4x2 fashion. in the upper left will be a cursor, below it is a hand. go to the third box from the left on the bottom, it will have a horizontal line with an up arrow above it and a down arrow below it. if you click and hold on this button more boxes will pop up. select the one on the far right...it should look like two squares hooked together. after you have selected this box, find the audio and video clips you want to click together. simply click on one of them, then click on the other. once you do that you will see that both clips change color and they should be linked until you unlink them.

hope this helps. i know its kind of confusing, but it is hard to explain sometimes...
