I suck at wakeboarding (& wakeskating for that matter) but I only wakeboarded probably 2 or 3 times before trying the wakeskate & I picked it up on my first day. If you're decent at wakeboarding then wakeskating should be a cakewalk for you. You'll probably feel weird not having your feet strapped in (unless you surf or skateboard), but you'll get used to it.

The first thing you do when getting into wakeskating is get online and visit Wakeskating.com.

fr3vk~ I have some FWT pads that you can screw into your binding insterts on your wakeboard and try out wakeskating. Let me know if you are interested, I can probably let them go pretty cheap seeing as I just got a skate the other day.

if you have wakeboarded before, you should have no problem wakeskating. The only difference is that the board isn't connected to your feet. It feels weard at first, but you will get used to it pretty quickly. Give it a try, you will like it.

A couple related questions to this thread:
1. Those that ride both WB and WS - do you prefer one over the other?
2. WHat price range for a decent wake skate?
3. You wear regular tennis shoes?

1 it depends on the person. i usually wakeboard more but then i go out for an easy run on the wakeskate and cant remember why i wakeboard more.
2. any where from 100 to 250 depending on what type you want.
3. i usually wear some old skate shoes. any kinda of shoes will work tho. if you have a foam top you dont need shoes. a lot of people ride with new wakeskate shoes that stay lighter and drain easier.

I'm making a wakeskate but aren't planning on putting any fins on it. My wakeboard has big fins, so will I eventually get used to the loose feel or should I just make some small plastic fins for the skate?

I'm just getting into it 'cos my boarding was in a rut so I figured I try something different for a while.

Boarding, you get a rush out of big air and big tricks. Skating .. well I get a rush just out of carving the thing around, lipslides, surface 180s, ollies ... Even bailing is a whole load of fun.

I wakeskated for the first time on saterday. it comes quickly, got up first time. It alot looser then a wakeboard and harder to cut with but rails really nicely.

you can get a good wakeskate for a bit over $200. much cheaper than a wakeboard. you can wear any kind of shoes you want if you have grip tape on your board. if you have a foam deck, you don't need shoes, but they help.

if you want shoes take a old pair of skating shoes (preferably leather) and drill holes into the bottom of them so they drain. thats what i did with my leather DVS getz shoes and it works great. just make sure the holes are big enough so the sole of the shoe doesn't push back to gether

Would those diving shoes made out of the same stuff as wet suits work? I've got an old pair of them, and was wondering if they would be better and last longer than skate shoes.
