Does anyone here use intense mental preparation for their wakeboarding?

I've tried a new technique where I often yell and scream motivational phrases loudly before I go out on the water. It seems to really be helping, and I've overcome most of my fears.

David Hasselhoff shouldn't be scared of anything on the water.

Here's what I do:

First, I put on a headband. Then I get up on the sunpad. Then I stand on one foot with my arms up and out and my hands pointing down. Once I'm in that position, I simultaneously kick my standing foot in the air and replace it with my other foot. I do that about 100 times. When the other people in the boat complain that I'm taking too long, I turn around and kick them in their faces and/or nuts.

That sounds really weird. You might want to join a Karate school to work out some of those issues. Fighting people who aren't prepared to fight you is not nice, nor is kicking people in the nuts. That is disrespectable.

I think just shouting things loudly does it for me. I shout things like:

"GO BIG OR GO HOME!"
"THERE IS NO FEAR ON THIS LAKE!"
"CUT FIRST, CUT HARD, SHOW NO MERCY TO THE WAKE!"

I don't need a karate school. I have personal trainers. One taught me the basics but he was kind of uptight. The other one (this really cool buy with a pony tail) taught me how to kick people in the nuts when they weren't ready.

You can't trust personal trainers. They're almost always people who couldn't cut it in the dojo, so they go out on their own as "personal trainers".

It's similar to wakeboarding coaches. They're mostly wakeboarders who are washed up or couldn't make it.

Also, one phrase that I'll never forget from an old sensei of mine...."Never trust a man with a pony tail, he'll kick you in the nuts when you aren't ready."

Apparently my sensei was very wise!

This makes no sense... it's like me saying anyone who opens a dojo is washed up and couldn't make it big in martial arts like jackie chan or chuck norris. If you're good at wakeboarding but not at the top, why not teach people, especially if you enjoy teaching.

Hey hey hey......hold up now. As a Dojo owner, I can still whip the pants off of allcomers, and found no more need to defeat others and win tournaments. I pass on knowledge, that is the key.

Personally, if "Sensei" is honest about this - he should stay off the water.

There are laws about psychos ya know!

ST is correct. The only thing to do is kick first and ask questions later. Myself, I don't like to get close enough for a kick. Smile

Ski first, board next ( maybe ), foil the rest of the day.

I zone out before I go wakeboarding, I just sit there, and dont notice/do anything at all. People in the boat yell at me, I dont here them. Im just in my own "wakeboard" land before I go wakeboarding/while wakeboarding

Scooter, that is gross, this is a serious post. I'm looking for new techniques, and I don't think that will help me out.

a serious post...? C'mon... I was going to ask if this was serious or not, but I guess it is. And if I drove by a guy screaming at the sky, I'd think he was yellin at me, and I'd probably give him the finger, and /or laugh. I don't mean to be critical... whatever floats your boat y'know. I just go to the dock get in the water and off I go. After my third fall I make a mental note to get it in gear, and off I go.

Personally, i stuck with wakeboarding over the past 4 years because it's such a chill sport. You should definitely want to be pumped to ride but not the same kind of pumped youd want if you were gonna go kick someones ass. This whole sport is about relaxing with your friends... If you really wanna pump yourself up before you ride, go over your run in your head and figure out your techniques before you go carve it up...

my mental preparation begins with thinking about the tast of beer....then with one arm...I extend towards the cooler...each ligement extended to its maximum range...with my fingers, I slowly wrap each digit around the cold container..my brain concentrating...not wanting to drop the frosty beverage....using the full potential of my body, I lean back, beer above my mouth...and begin pouring the tasty liquid down my throat....that is my prep!!!! Twisted Evil

Nothing wrong with beer for preparation, if that's what does it for you.

Usually, what works best is if I scream so loud and hard I start sweating. That really gets my muscles loose.

Man, wakeboarding isn't like a martial arts competition finals.... it's all about getting out and riding and taking it easy, just chillin' and flowin' in the water. If you wanna get your muscles loose I would suggest stretching before you ride, not screaming like someone kicked your balls...
