I’m just curious. Is there anyone else out there that comes from a skiing background like I do and thinks that it’s kinda ironic that this sport is taking boats that have decades behind them being developed to produce the smallest wake possible for slalom skiing and are now being loaded down with extra weight to produce a larger wake? |

| I come from a skiing background, I'm glad it's progressed to wakeboarding. Slalom skiing was so boring to me. |

Dennis,
Which boats are those? I don't see many slalom boats with ballast being used as wakeboard boats. Most of the wakeboard boats are derived from the family bowrider runabout-type hulls or are specifically designed for wakeboarding. _________________ We are wakeboarders and our culture is advanced beyond all that you can possibly comprehend with one hundred percent of your brain. |

ST, they wer ethe first "wake" boats. Now most of them are trying to come up with an I/O style of seating.
Yes, Dennis, 8 years ago I found it ironic. Now the manufacturers have changed their hulls to more resemble I/O hulls. Including strakes, chines and a deep V hull.
Are we going to see a tri-hull board boat? _________________ I'm hung like Einstein,

| salmon_tacos, If you bought your boat before 1997 it's not designed for wakeboarding somepeople have Mastercraft Prostar 190s or ski supremes that are not designed for wakeboarding but still have towers and ballest |

I've got a 1987 MC 190, built for slalom skiing, which will throw basically no wake at 28-31 mph speeds. It's pretty cool I guess. I got the boat for wakeboarding because I could afford it and it had the power I wanted (chevy 454). I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me, pardon the pun. Really good for tubing, which can be fun at times.
It is pretty ironic and I'd say an engineering marvel (or just lucky) that these types of boats still throw nice wakes when weighed down. I mean, with enough weight and patience waiting for the ballast transfer, I could pull someone wakesurfing or wakeboarding (throwing a totally nice wake) and then five minutes later I could pull someone barefooting, and there would be barely no wake at all. |

I just don't think any of the companies took their top-of-the-line slalom boats and made wakeboarding boats out of them. I don't know why owners would do that either but I guess some do...not many though.
Of course they didn't design wakeboard-specific hulls at first. They used their bigger hulls with deeper Vs..."sport" boats, i.e. family boats.
Leggester,
Why would they put lifting strakes on a wakeboard boat? Wouldn't that just make the wake smaller? _________________ We are wakeboarders and our culture is advanced beyond all that you can possibly comprehend with one hundred percent of your brain. |

ST, not necessarily. Experimenting with good wakes may mean lifting the aft of the boat to get more hull in the water.
I'm no expert, but you can see quite a bit of this at the ramps. _________________ I'm hung like Einstein,

Some boat slike mine SN 2001 were designed specifically for skiing, when wakeboarding became popular everyone discovered how good of a wakeboard boat it could be.
Last year I took a tour of the Correct Craft factory. I asked the tour guide why C.C. had not decided to make an affordable/cheap wake board boat using the 2001 hull. He said it had been considered, but the molds had already been destroyed. Imagine how much money C.C. could have made off of a new "Air 2001" I think it would still be easy to do. |

| the oversight in this discussion is that the boats are 3-event boats, not just slalom boats. i.e. they were designed to make a good trick skiing wake at slower speeds, which is what is being adapted to make a good wakeboard wake[/b] |

Melanie G ~ Slalom skiing boring? I'm not talking about simply skiing on one ski, I'm talking about running the course. It is a never ending challange.
Timmy ~ Yes I know the comp ski boats are 3 event boats. I slalom, trick and wakeboard in addition to kneeboarding (I never did jump though, my back couldn't take it). I really used to love to do the toe pass, one of the most fun things on the water because non skiers are so amazed by it. |

I used to ski a lot, I now ride behind a tournament ski boat, a Ski 196 with a tower and a few barrels of water in the back, the 196 is tiny and the wake is pretty small but its all i got to go with |
