Lately I have been trying backrolls and last weekend when i was trying them i realized that I was doing a 180 spin during my rotation. Does anyone know why I am doing this or how i can change it? I am getting most of the rotation and doing a full 180 not just turning a little.

Thanx.

you mean you are trying to do a backroll and you do a backroll to revert instead ?
sweet! I had the same problem before. I think your problem come from you head. to do a backroll you need try tuching your back ear to you back shoulder (you always look at the boat). right now, you might turn your head too much by trying to look behind you (by trying to tuch you front eat with your back shoulder).

you don't need to cut hard to do it, stay 15ft away front the wake and then do a progressive cut, it's very important!

do a nice pop before turning and have fun!

now you know how to backroll and backroll to revert ! Cool

Just looked at your back roll attempts. not bad, just need a tidy up and you will stick it. your edge is too fast too soon.

To overcome your first problem next time you go out. on the turn towards the wake ease in to your cut to make it more progressive with your elbows in at your sides touching your crash vest and keep them there. some people find this hard to understand. if you look at the video clip your first part of the cut has far too much edge and speed (look at the spray). the second part up to the wake you flatten off and slow down when it should be the other way around.
a good way to understand this is

1. to stand tall when you pull out.
2. as you turn towards the wake STAND TALL look down the line of the rope towards the BOAT then as your cutting towards the wake start slowly to look where your going. by this time you will be about 4 foot from the wake standing tall progressively edging up the wake.

It will feel alot more relaxed and "floaty"

I do think its all in your approach. i am a great believer in how you go into a tick especially an invert is how you come out the other side

Ps. if you still turn to revert which i dont think you will do with the right approach then let go with your back arm just before you hit the water.
also get a non strech rope, it looks like a regular ski rope???

i agree with kuehn
u need to slow down on ur cut. when u do a backroll, ur cut needs to be the hardest at the bottom of the wake. push the board behind u at the top of the wake and relax ur arms. hold on with two hands and you should land regular instead of swtich.

be more progressive when you cut. don't need to cut that hard. spot your landing.
you need to cut all the way tru the wake, DON'T release the pression on the wake.

good luck

When you come in for your landing try to spot it as much ahead of time as possible and near the end of the rotation hold on with both hands and keep the handle in near your front hip/waist area. If it's in the middle or other side of waist you'll do a revert. If that doesn't work try letting go with your back hand when your about upside down.
