Yesterday I went out and was getting some pretty darn reasonable air for the second time so I decided to try some 180s. I'd be lying to say I did half tolerable. I either over span on most of them or I just couoldn't keep in riding after I landed since i'm a terrible switch rider. Would it be a bad move to forget about 180s and move right to some something like backrolls and 360s?

Maybe try and learn switch.

Btw, if you're overturning, it's probably because you're pulling the line too hard. When i do 180s, I just let go my lead hand, and the boat automatically pulls you the right amount of degrees, so you don't overturn.

I just learned them 2 weekends ago. It helped me to think about riding away on your toeside edge (if you jumped heal side) to the shore. Also look at the shore when you are about to land it helps alot. Good luck.

If you dont feel comfortable with the wake 2 wake landings, then try a few dropping off the wake (inside/out jump). It will help you with the feel, sometiems thats all it takes to get the confidence to stick it w2w. You dont need much time to turn a frontside 180, just hold your edge and stand tall to lift off the inside of the wake, pull the handle to your rear hip and land with more weight on your rear foot. You will have a much softer landing.

I'd just practice your switch riding, it will make your 180s easy and improve your overall riding.

You should be able to do a full run switch and be able to carve switch without too much trouble before you learn 180s. Once you can ride switch, though, they should only take like 5 tries to land. All you have to do is let go with your front hand and the boat will pull you around.

Definitely DO NOT skip 180s. If you take your time and build a firm base now, you will progress much faster later.
