i was working on my neighbors xr 80 (small little bike) as it would not run at all, I found an old corroded safety switch cobbled in to the spark plug wiring so i removed and vroom, the bike kick started right up, I went to run the bike back to my neighbors garage (less than 100 yards away...so no helmet required, right?) well long story short the bike was chugging a bit so i thought i would run it around the block first, wet pavement and a few beers......no problem!....the next thing i knew i woke up in the intensive care unit wearing neck brace and all kinds of tubes and wires attatched....two days later i was released from hospital not really knowing my condition.....as soon as my friend got me home my phone rang, it was the plastic surgeon that looked at me while i was in a coma ...she said get your ass in to the hospital now or you may not make it , i crushed the entire right side of my face .....six hours of reconstruction later i am the proud new owner of three titanium plates anchored with screws in to what little bone was left ......she did an amazing job and may even have saved my life as the bone fragments were very close to my brain and coul have punctured the brain "sack" .......every morning i wake up with a splkitting headache that reminds me

IF YOU RIDE A DIRTBIKE, WEAR A HELMET, THERE IS NO TRIP TOO SHORT, NOTHING LIKE THIS WAS EVER GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME, NOW I HAVE THE MEDICAL BILLS TO PROVE THAT IS stuff ATTITUDE
AS A SLIGHT BONUS, i AM THE FIRST TO KNOW WHEN THE WEATHER IS ABOUT TO CHANGE .....
seriously, i almost died from an accident that a helmet would have let me walk away from....

peace, sorry for the heavy subject matter

I ride a CR250, no ride is too short for a helmet, but thats all I wear. I had a friend who put the shifter peg through his ankle because he crushed it sliding sideways into a tree. I bet that hurt. Sorry to hear about your fall, hope the recovery goes well.

My friend was snowmobiling last year, and we where at a road crossing and he gassed his sled and got hung up on the pavement a bit and fell off and took a chunk out of his helmet. He always wheres his helmet after that.
