Anybody ever bought a car or truck w/a salvage title? I see a ton of vehicles on Ebay that are dirt cheap. Seems like you would have trouble selling it and could have problems w/it. There's theft recovery and flood damaged vehicles that supposedly haven't gotten wet thousands less than blue book.

i really wouldn't recommend buying a car with a salvage title, for whatever the reason. You don't know the reliability of it and basically its you get what you pay for

I bought a car that had a salvage title.

The place that was selling it showed me pictures of the damage and then the different stages of repair work. I took the car to two different dealerships to have it checked out, both times it passed with flying colors.

It was a great car with no problems at all the entire time i owned it.

But selling it was a problem, for one it was a two seat sports car, with twin-turbos - not a big market around here for that. And with the salvage title no one would touch it. I finally sold it and took a bit of a hit, but it worked out in the end.

if it has been wrecked that is one thing as long as the frame has not been bent. If it has been flooded or any other type of damage i would STAY AWAY! you don't know if they replaced parts or they just cleaned them up. needless to say buying a car with a salvage title is risky, just be careful

I would have it checked out by some mechanics before buying it.

With a salvage title you can not use financing. Like Seth said, selling it sucks and don't even think about getting a good trade in value fo a dealership.. Some states will also not let you have full coverage on it. It can save you a lot of money off the top if you can pay cash and see what has happened and what they did. I would also have 2 different dealers (like Seth said) verify what could be a problem with it.

I bought my car as a theft recovery. It was missing the interior, engine/tranny, and rear end. Since I had a rear ended car at the time... it worked out great. If you're not REALLY good with the particular model and cant' do the work yourself, it may not be such a good venture.

Nice car man

A guy who works at the fire hall with my dad , his dad owns a body recovery/shop. Everyyear he gets a Dodge2500, and a F350 With less then 20000m on it, for about 12,000 canadianl, then he puts about 12, 000 inot it getting his dad or himself to do the work, uses it for a year and sells it for $38,000 cdn. And you could never tell the trucks had been rolled. He is on the lookout for a Ford 250 diesel for my dad.

salvage vehicles have to go through state inspection. if it is in perfect condition, it has either been repaired well or it could be stolen. this is worth checking. if it is wrecked then the owner got it for cheap most likely. ie. auction or bought back from insurance company after wreck.once on a salvage, always will have salvage title.
