Ok, its not me but my friend had a bad fall a few days ago and his fingers went numb. He went and got an MRI and it turns out he got a herniated disk which is pressing against his spinal column. Its from an old rugby injury. The doctor told him that wakeboarding is out of the question...but what do yall think of wakeskating for him. I feel bad for him seeing as he just bought a pair of 03' parks bindings. I am buying them from him now. I personally think wakeskating should be ok, just stick to surface tricks and stuff. What do yall think. _________________

The thing about back injuries is that doctors always err on the conservative side. There's many, many, MANY stories about guys who overcome back problems to do what they love, but if a doctor tells 'em it's okay to do & then they get hurt then they could probably get sued for malpractice.
I highly doubt wakeskating will be any easier on him, but my guess is that he'll eventually be able to wakeboard again if he really loves it, he'll just hafta learn how to manage his back problems. |

I hurt my back on the wakeboard last year doing a method to late 180. I went off axis and landed on the peak of the wake back first. Couldn't breath properly for 2 days or walk properly for about 5 days. Still went out boarding the rest of the week though. For about a month it stopped me from boarding for extended periods though. Wish I had some drugs for it... Well... actually, don't worry... Some Valium would have been nice, but Panadine Forte and lots of alcohol helped a little.
I still have no idea exactly what I did, but it still hurts a little now. It sucks, So I can only imagine how bad your friend is feeling right now. Can he get any form of surgery for it? I agree with Jester, personally I'd look at my options closely but I'd just have to continue boarding and skating. Has he seen anyone specialising in sports related medicine? _________________ Download In-Transit today for only $5 - Winner of Transworld Video Part of the Year, Riders Choice Awards Video of the Year |

yea, teh doc said there was an operation that would kinda push back the cartilaidge that was pressing against the spinal column and prevent it from happening again. But it is some serious $$$ plus the fact of having an operation. I think he is debating it right now.
So far I have had only two injuries that have kept me off the water. One was a pulled (or ripped) not sure ligement in my foot, and another was a spider bite on my foot that got infected by a water born bacteria. It was probable the most pain I have put up with in a long time. It might not sound bad, oh but it was. Last week, I had a narly head plant, the one wear the back of your head slams on the water...I was seeing stars and blurred vision....but after a few seconds of not knowing were I was, I grabed the rope and went again....damn my neck was sore the next day _________________
