If this was asked before, sorry I searched and couldn't find any topics. ANYWAYS, anyone who has ridden either a catalyst or byerly skate, as well as a cassette, mutiny, etc. What are the pros & cons of each?? How do they compare against each other?? Any input would be great. Thanx.

I have rode all but the Byerly ( to small )
Pros
Mutiny Endurance 43- Stiffest of them all, best pop for ollies and w2w, nice and wide for no toe/heel drag, durable, and perfect on weight

Hyperlite Catalyst 112/116- Nice foam, the step down rail gives a little grip when finless, durable, nice w2w

Cassette 3D 43- Great concave, nice ollie snap , easy to throw shuvits and lips

Cons-

Mutiny- The stock fins were to big so I ground them down

Hyperlite- The deck was way to flexable, no pop, the rail was to sharp for liptricks the concave doesn't feel right under your feet

Cassette- wood and water don't mix, short life when hitting rails, little to heavy

Thanx Todd. I ended up grabbing a HL Byerly to try out. I've never ridden an HL wakeskate so I wanna try them out. Loved my cassette, but I wanna try as many wakeskates as possible before settling on what I like. I hope the Byerly isn't too small. I've ridden a 41 and I have a 43 Cassette and the Byerly 107 = 42.1 inches, so I think it would be okay. It seems people who ride the HL decks always get the Catalyst, and people who ride Cassettes get smaller decks. Does it have something to do with the style of the boards working better with different lengths??

It's only all about people being big fans of Grubb...Personally Hyperlite should make a smaller skate than the Byerly, they should get that Gate with less channels and make it as small or smaller than the Byerly...

The gate is much smaller than the Byerly, the 114 includes the kick tail, the riding surface is much less

I understand that part, but still, having those kicktails to make it 114 feel way too big. I wouldn't mind a 107 including kicktails. If Aaron Reed at 180lb can ride a 40 inch board, I'm pretty sure a 130 lb guy like me could ride something a lot smaller.

I'm 185 and the gate is just fine for me. the catylst 116 is a boat. i wish the hyperlite skates were made a little thinner with molded in fins like the byerly wakeboard. keep the kicktails though, i'm digging them. i really want to try the new mutiny skate, it looks like it rides awesome. they hyperlite skates all feel really slippery compared to the cassettes. to me this sucks.

IMO, the HL boards feel smaller. On a cassette concave 41 I feel really comfortable. but when a tried the Byerly 42 it felt really small. Just my observation.

if the byerly felt too small for you, try riding a larger size. thats what most people do.

What about the grip surfaces on the kampus wakeskates? Then ones were they have some sand mixed with the epoxy on top or the one with like lots of little pieces of rubber mixed. Anyone try these?

Just wondering because i am gonna make my own wakeskate and the sand in the epoxy thing would be kind of easy.

The Kampus skates that I tried had grip tape on them and another one had foam. I have heard they used the epoxy mixutre, but have yet to see them in action.

the more i ride the gate...the more i like it. i put the .7 a wing fins on instead of the huge 1.5's it came with. now it tracks just like i want it to.i have noticed a problem in the design of the kick tails. they are too narrow. on w2w landings i find that every once in a while, my heel or toes catch the water slightly. ollies have never been easier and their durability is unmatched. i love the foam much more than the grip tape on my cassette. here are some pics from earlier today.

Actually looks like you want something that certainly ISN'T different...

Please don't get a LF... Not this year anyway. If you like the boards, get a Cassette.

i've ridden the byerly and the cassette 3d, i like the 3d much more, just feels alot better under your feet. The byerly didn't seem to ride quite as smoothly. Seemed kinda bulky

it's a much thicker skate, thats why it feels more bulky.

Tyler*Moore, When I look at the pic it looks like the rope has a loop in it but isn't around the leg because you can see the whole loop, part of it doesnt dissapear behind his leg
