Hey ya'll. I love wakeskating and do it all the time, but I hear a lot of rumors about boarders losing toes, fingers, or just getting sliced from the fins. I wear shoes when I wakeskate and I try a lot of tricks. I will never stop boarding, if I get hurt, that means I just got unlucky. So, are these rumors true? Anyone have any good stories?

I have some bad wake boarding stories but nuthin to bad wakeskating. I guess this story could happen wakeskating also: MY friend caught his front edge and came out of his bindings and the board sank. He's floating and the board shot up and hit him in the nuts so hard that his right nut swelled up to the size of a grapefruit and they had to CUT IT OFF the next day!!! He doesn't board anymore.

Wakeskate fins aren't sharp enuff to do a lotta damage to you. If they hit you really hard they might cut you, but a round rock will do the same thing. Definitely never heard of an amputation, that sounds like urban legend. Surfers are getting hacked by their fins all the time & they sew stuff back together, they don't finish the job that the fin started.

the fin can do more damage when you call and the pressure of the water and tention shoots the board out and it can do some slicage.

That's true, but like I said before, a rock thrown with the same amount of force will cut you. I've never heard of wakeskating fins hacking anybody really badly, they're blunt & the edges are pretty soft. If you compare them to surfboard fins you'll see a marked difference.

I was trying a front roll on a wake board and I over rotated and I got cuts all on my forearm and bicep from the Side fins and front edge of the board is that common?

If you guys are worried about the fins on your wakeskates cutting you, simply take them off. Problem solved.

I just got a cut in my shin while w-skating and had to get 6 stiches. No big deal but I was told by the ER tech to stay out of the water for 2 weeks. And no I do not have fins on my skate.

I was helping a friend take off his bindings and he kicked forward and the Fontside edge hit me in the gums and I had to get 15 stitches in my mouth but I was riding 3 days later.

Wakeskating is very dangerous. I ended up with a dislocated hip and cracked femur a while back. I finally started skating again about three weeks ago and all is well so far. I did get busted in the eye the other day when I surfaced and the skate was skipping across the water. I even put my hands in front of my face, but I guess I let one down a little too soon. So, lately only a black eye.

Tip of the day : Leave the double ups alone on a wakeskate.

dumassonwheels89, i think your riding crew is to prone to injuries and should take it easy for a while.

i dont think wakeskating is any more dangerous than wakeboarding.

lookout for the splits. about a week ago i was trying some wakejumps and on the landing my front foot was on the board my back foot was not. result: left leg and board keep going right leg stops. partially torn mcl and out for the season. luckily it didn't happen 'til late august, but it hurt (and still hurts) like hell.
