melting lead is very dangerous. Instead i would just use jugs and put the led in them, and then fill in the air gaps with water, put a top on and your good. But if you insist on melting it and pouring it into molds, i would probably use a propane camping stove and just a old pot. Then use cooking pans, for bread and what not, to use as forms to pour it into. Then spray it with something to seal it. If you do this make sure it is outside, and wear ventalation. Also dont get water into it, or else it will crackle like hot oil and water, but only hurt alot more.

Bread loaf pans and a propane turkey fryer. A friend just used this method with tire weights and it came out great. Cook it down OUTDOORS, then get out all of the junk metal, let it cool, then coat with plasti-dip or similar. I plan on trying this later this spring.

It seems this way would be much cheaper than the lead heads at a buck a pound.

I used one of those turkey deep fryer burners for heating. For the casting I cut a piece of 6" C channel steel (the inside of it is tapered) welded caps on the open ends and a handle. It worked really well except like ryan said any impurities in the lead will splatter, it would pay to pick up some leather welding gloves.
