crap, why won't ins. pay for lasik, when you add all the doc. visits and complications with contacts, cost of lenses and frames, you would think it would make sence for them to cover a portion of the cost.....I've been calling around and now the price varies on how bad your eyes are....so I'm totally screwed, paying like 1800/eye.....how nice it would be to wake up and see, not have spray in your eyes when you wakeboard make you have to get back in the boat......I found a place in Dallas for like $695/eye thats if you have almost perfect vision.......ggggrrrrrrrrr

I feel your pain. I checked into it about 3 months ago. The cost per eye with my vision is around $1600. One of these days I will have it done, but hopefully insurance will pay for it by then!

guess I'll have to wait for that too.....my vision is bad but I've still got a few years to go in contacts.....I just have them when I'm riding though.....a faceplant with your eyes open and contacts really sucks.....

I would love to have that done too but will wait until it gets to about $1000 for both eyes. I figure it will get ther in about couple of years. Riverfreak-- they have a couple places in Dallas that does it and you can pay it out like $40 bucks a month, after I get this HDTV paid for will be looking into it. Hoping for a good summer of lots of OT with not being able to wakeboard this summer, will not mind it plus make some good cash for some new toys for the boat.

Lauri, Look up Dr. Booth here in Dallas. I know several people who have had very good results from him. Apparently he is one of the best because many atheletes come from all over to see him. I think I heard on the radio that he starts at $495 an eye.

Though it's expensive, I won't ever go to the cheapest guy in town. I'm not going to be bargain shopping, so that I can let the cheapest doctor shoot hot lazers into my eyes to burn off portions of my cornea. I'll save up and get it from the most expensive guy. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

If you're in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, take that advice someone posted earlier... Boothe is one of the best, and Carter is another one that is one of the best. My good friend used to sell the medical lasers that are used in the operation, and highly recommended those two if I were to ever have it done.

I'm short sighted because I stare at books & computers too much. Apparently staring at something at close range does that to your eyes.
If I have Lasik to fix my eyes & then keep staring at books & screens, won't I get short sighted again ?
