So what are you trying to say, seaman, tindy's aren't cool anymore? Those things ooze stee, man. Seriously, I'm almost disappointed with that boneless because that grab is almost an indy; he's like grabbing on his back foot. This is wakeboarding, not snowboarding or especially skateboarding so we can invent whatever grabs we want and NAME them whatever we want, too. I don't know, I guess what I'm trying to say is that indy's arent' expressive enough for me because skaters have done them already. If I can't name it, then I don't want to have anything to do with it.
Sorry to depart from the one sentence format.
On a more serious note, wakeboarding has seriously pooped on every grab out there. Here's something to think about (but it's not only wakeboarding's fault). People say that a switch slob is a tindy, but then you have to think, is that slob grab really correct (you know, if it is then why would a slob be bad)? So you have to look back at skateboarding and find out that a slob is grabed in between your feet (like a mute) on a frontside air (yes, it's direction specific kids-I just learned that). This whole "grabbing slob in front of your front foot" has been a scam and it's been weird for years. Seriously, I think that came from snowboarding because if you watch stuff from the 80's, they had like 10 inch stances and about two feet of nose to grab for. Ugh, I don't feel so good....
sorry for the graphic image...

Oh yeah, schmaltz, that image IS classic. I was so happy when I was able to get that mag (volume 2 issue 4) because of that ad, and the fact that joe curtes has the cover (he's from wisconsin-menominee falls to be exact. It's a bit of home state pride).

electricsnow, first of all, I have come to the cunclusion that majority of the people on/in this site/sport(including some pro's) just don't give a rat's ass about the history of boardsports. It sucks really.
Aren't real slobs done with your front arm around your knee but in between the feet? if tweeked it becomes lein? I'm usually pretty good with grabs, but this one has become so distorted I don't remember anymore

Speaking of the launch ramp days makes me want to break out my Lance Mountain (with boneite of course) and bust a rocket air...... hosoi style.
How come none of these new wakeskates have boneite?...lol

Thanks for that pic josh; I just saved it to my computer. I may be a minority on here, but I really like what grant used to do with those cordials. Like I said, someday I HAVE to get one...
As for leins, slobs, and japans, it goes a little something like this. Leins and slobs are both done on frontside airs. A slob is grabbed on your toeside in between your feet. You can either do it tuck knee stee (and call it a tuck knee slob) or just grab it in between your legs as is. I've never heard it named differently becuase you grabed it tucked knee style.
As I said, leins are also done on a frontside air, but with those you grab on your heelside in between your feet. It's not a japan, it's just a backside grab on a frontside air.
I have never actually seen a very good definition for a japan...I do know that it is grabbed in the same position that a mute is grabbed, but as for the tweak, some say that you have to bend your front knee in (I'm actually not so sure about that one, but who knows), but the most popular way to do it is to pull and tweak it behind you. It's hard to describe, but if you saw it, it's very recognizable. Here's something else, andy mcdonald did this trick where you grab a tuck knee indy and tweak it back like a japan and he called it a "chicken wing." Maybe you've seen that one. ANyway, I hope that helps.

beeRfarts. Here is a wisconsin test. You ever heard of Ron Bureta? or the obvious ones like dale, nate and roan. Is Joes brother still shooting snowboarding? He had a shot in snowboarder of me and ron out in mt hood a million years ago. I lived up in Hurley, WI one winter with Ron before we moved to Breck. WCHC

| All of you are falling way to deep in this grab thing. I could clear it all up for all of you but I can't type for stuff. It will take me an hour to break it down.

Beerfarts-now THAT makes sense.
You know, I'm not really familiar with ron buretta's work, but for some reason that name kind of rings a bell. As for nate, roan and dale, yes, those are the obvious wisconsinites that made a difference (not to mention jake blattner). The guy that runs my local snowboard shop used to ride with most, if not all of the aforementioned riders. This past year he met up with roan at one of the trade shows and I guess he is involved with skateboarding somehow, and I guess he's a really good skater, too. Yeah, I still love to watch upping the ante....roan's part was nuts.
As for jeff, I do believe he is still shooting. And the last I had heard of joe, he actually had a job with burton. I think that came about with in the past two years. Also, ryan williams ended up with a job with sessions, but I don't know if that's still true.
As for hurley wisconsin, it's a small fricking world because my parents have a cabin about 25 minutes away on island lake where I do my wakeboarding and wakeskating (I don't know if you've heard of it; it's pretty small). I also snowboard up there in the winter on occasion at blackjack. So, can I assume you are familiar with silver street? Not that I am because I'm a girl, but that street is infamous for their.....entertainment.
Yeah, I know a few wakeboarders that used to live out in breck in like the early to mid 90's. One of them ended up chillin' with roan rogers. This guy basically ended up smoking pot and watching cartoons with one of his heros. I thought that was a neat story.

Sweet, so then I'm not the only on who thinks he's a hero. It was genius to name a trick that is just flipped really slow.
Seriously, now all I'm waiting for is wakeskate physics.

I totally agree. It's still not as creative as Shapiro's naming scheme. The X-Mobe has to be the coolest trick name ever.

ES- I lived on silver street above the Iron Horse saloon I was too young to go to those entertainment joints when I was up there. Next time you snowboard you have to go to White Cap that resort destroys the rest. We used to run blackjack at night with a car to shuttle us up to the top. Ron was never a big name, he's from Rhinelander, he rode am for Barfoot and then went pro for vision, jumped ship to Division 23 with Steve Blakely and Peter Line, didn't like the boards and designed his pro model for Clockwork, they self destructed and he sold his soul to ignition, around then he ripped all the tendons in his ankle and lost his ride. He just started riding a lot again in the last couple years, he and a guy from a shop up in Bessimer, MI BSO are doing some boards this year under a name that is kind of annoying to me. Oh here is another name you might know, Joe dubs(Wisbinski or something like that). There is also another guy from WI named Pete Worsler(sp) that runs Unity snowboards out in silverthorne, co. There were a couple others that I used to ride with out there that wakeboard and whatnot, they are all probably pushin 30 though.
