Here's the link to the first of our Hyperlite previews, the Gate Wakeskate:

Check out the kicktail, and be sure to check out the 3D image/video of it.

i like the 3-d view, i had a visual idea of what the kicktail looked like, that helped, becasue the picture didnt really show it. Brad, how does it ride, how is the ollie? looks pretty cool.

the kicktail makes the biggest difference for ollies. they are easier. my stance is different with the gate. just like a skate, 1 foot all the way back on the kicktail and the other about 2\3 up towards the front.i had the catalyst 116 for a few days before the gate and have also ridden the grubb 112, the gate is way better than both in my opinion. i also like it better than the cassette that i rode for the previous year mostly because its not wood. wood and water don't mix. in my opinion the hyperlites will last a lot longer and i think more companies will start using kicktails as well.

The board does suck. The surface area is to small, its to light under your feet and the pop wasnt there.

Currently I ride a Liquid Force Tech 142 until the concave Mutiny boards come out in October. Right Kyle Wink

PostPosted: Aug 19, 2003 7:25 am    Post subject: The Gate First Impressions Review Reply with quote

Well, I got my GATE yesterday. I got on the boat and road it from 2 to 9 pm. I had a blast. I didn't wanna get off. I went in for dinner and came right back out. This board is definitely much more buoyant and I popup out of the water much faster upon takeoff. When I launch over the wake, this board is pretty easy to land on. First, being as buoyant as it is, it doesn't tank when you slam back down on it. Ollie Power? yes, its true. However, I feel like I have a little more control of my other board(a kampus) when I snap it up on the lip. I am sure I will work that out though, its a minor first day thing. I personally feel like The Gate being 114cm is a bigger dudes board. If your a scrawny dude, this board may not be for you. Here's a few negatives... 1. the rocker is pretty thick and I can't fit it into my Joystick board rack. 2. Another negative which really bothered me right out of the box is that I saw a 'made in Taiwan' sticker on the back. If I am forking out 240 bucks for a freaking wakeskate, I want it made by Joe Blow USA and Not Kung Fu. I'm sure you understand. Besides those two negatives, I love this board, its a good ride. Very Happy

Obviously we both have different riding styles.

I can name some people on this board that feel the same way as I do about that board.

I am guessing you "Grouch" is one of the little scrawny dudes im talking about. You are to light for this board if its getting away from you. You say, "surface area is to small ". You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

ha ha ha... That's funny "You obviously have no idea what you are talking about"... hehehe... Still laughing from that one. Grouch you "little scrawny dude", that's a funny comment to make.
You should do a little research and check out some of the things grouch has said before making a blind statement like that. He seems to know what he's talking about in my book. Just because you can't comprehend or understand what he's saying isn't his fault.

snoobs, Grouch is a fairly big guy at 185 lbs., and is a good wakeskater. I will back him up in the fact that, yes....he does know what he is talking about. Personally, I think that the Gate would be a good carpet skating board, or maybe a good skateboard if you bolted some trucks and wheels to the bottom of it. What in god's name is the reason for the kick-tails that are on that board?? For doing bluntslides??? Oh-k???? Doing Manuals?? Give me a break!! Oh, wait....crooked grinds??? As if!!!!

I'm going to have to agree with Grouch here....the board is a gimmick and a joke!!!

300.00 for something made in China???? How much did it cost to make is what I want to know......
