| I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the X Games next year. They had a huge crowd for wakeboarding today, probably bigger than any crowd at a tour stop. I don't know if they will announce the attendance, or even if they know what it was since it was free. |

WaKeOrDiE!, I agree with SCBrips, I really don't want to see wakeskating ruined by that greedy micky mouse dude. Wakeskating needs to stay "underground", sorry but why would you want a bunch of kooks who think street luge is the coolest thing having anyhing to with wakeskating _________________ http://www.integrity-wake.com

Ya Wakeordie, maybe you are the one who needs to get the f out. Maybe a wakeskate only contest would be cool, compleatly seperate from all other BS(wakeboarding, waterskiing, speed climbing, fruit booting...) _________________ bindings suck |

There are pros & cons to the recognition of wakeskating.
Pros: It brings attention to your sport, which means companies will put money into it so you'll get newer better products more quickly than you would if the sport wasn't as popular. The publicity also tends to be very positive, which means society as a whole will treat you favorably. And since you've already been doing it you have a headstart so you won't look like all the other barneys trying to learn it.
Cons: Some of the gear which is cheap now will become terribly overpriced. When I started surfing in 1995 a pair of brand new Quiksilver boardshorts cost $20. Also, large companies like Nike will wanna get their greedy paws on some more money & will try to drive out homegrown organizations that have been with wakeskating forever (like how Nike bought Hurley so they can put smaller surf companies outta biz). Plus more kooks in the water.
By the way, those of you that are hoping wakeskating will stay underground, you're already screwed. Have you seen the new jeans commercial where the guy wakeskates? I'd say you should start bracing yourselves for it. |
