alright girls...i wanted to present this question in the ladies lounge, b/c i know a war will start if the boys join on this topic. anyway, after riding for a little while my hands start to kill and i get blisters beginning to form along my knuckles and where my fingers meet my hands. i tried on a pair of gloves which had open fingers when i rode last time and it really helped. how do you ladies feel about wearing gloves while boarding? i heard it is not really good to do? do you guys have any that you would recommend. i am probably going to get ones with finger holes, unless someone recommends something better...any help would be greatly appreciated!! thanks ladies! |

shady,
Wear the gloves & screw what the boys think. I sometimes wear gloves & when I don't I often wish that I had taken the time to put them on. |

I hope you mean callouses on the palms of your hand.....because the way described your blisters it makes it sound like you're scraping your knuckles~ on god knows what??
I never thought of wakeboarding as a fashion statement. You do what you need to do to have fun, who cares what the boys think.
Take a stand and make a statement.

I used to always wear gloves but recently started trying to go without since I was getting callouses anyway. Now it's more just a mood thing with me...sometimes do sometimes don't. There were sometimes when I would wear them that my hands would get all tingly and kinda numb...not sure what that's about. If you wanna wear gloves go for it...ain't no shame in this game. I find that gloves help if I'm tired (after many sets, or at the end of 1 long one). _________________ TheMalibuCrew.com |

pretty much the same story for me. i'd rather not use them but i will if they're in the boat and my hands are starting to hurt. we're weekend warriors so after a hard day of riding gloveless on saturday, i usually want/need them on sunday. they also give that little extra bit of help with holding onto the handle when your fingers/hands/arms are worn out.
man-hands on women ... yuck... go for the gloves! _________________ www.soulriders.com

I don't use them (I don't have them), I'm new though, so I haven't tried them. In other sports, I've found that I would rather have callouses than gloves, primary because I feel more "in control" of what I do, and partially because most gloves don't fit right, with my short, fat fingers. - Lisa _________________ "It is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." -- Mark Twain

I am a guy, so I hope that I do not get blasted for posting here:
They are fine to wear (I used to wear them), until I took lessons one day and got advice not to wear them. the reasoning is that when you are doing spins it is really hard to feel the handle on the handle passes.
the reason that you get the callouses is because of the way that you hold the handle. what happens is that the extra skin that you see on the palm of your hand when you roll your hand gets pressed in there and after a while of riding like that you get those callouses. Gloves can help, but you need the right kind so that you get that extra skin tightened out. _________________ If you do not like your job, you don't strike....You just go in there everyday and do it really half a$$ed.....Now that's the American way - Homer Simpson. |

I used to wear gloves, but I just bought a new handle that has a really nice, soft grip so I don't wear them anymore. But I agree with everyone else if your hands are hurting wear the gloves, who cares what the guys think! |

only wear them if you don't intent to do any handle passes - I used to wear them but had no control on doing 3's and such- if your only carving around and jumping the wake- fine wear them _________________ War does not decide who is right- War decides who is left............... |

shannon-what kind of gloves do you wear? i wore some really old waterskiing gloves that our friends had on the boat, and it helped, but i want something that might be more suitable for wakeboarding. i guess callouses are ok, but my hands KILL at the end of sets b/c my skin gets so crunched up. i am definitely not at any 3's yet, so i think for now wearing gloves is the thing to do, until i get really really good. thanks for the advice all... |
