Ive been trying backrolls lately and i get good pop and rotation and everything but i keep going to revert. I let go with my back hand halfway through the flip too. but i still go to revert. and if i dont go to revert, which i almost always do, i land like im cutting. how do i get the board under me better and keep it straight?

how hard are u cutting? cause u COULD be cutting to hard, and to far away from the boat, cause thats what makes u go revert. you wanna take a progressive egde, and wait and throw it, it seems like u have that down. also yeah keep letting go with that back hand if ur going revert, but make sure ur letting go with the right hand, that could be the problem.

i probably start cutting like 15-20 ft. out and its like i keep rotating when the board is under me and i go to revert. its Bubb Rubb up. so should i just start cutting in like 10 ft. out or what?

yeah, i would give it a shot, but dont back off much on how hard u cut, just dont cut away from the boat, like instead of hitting the wake at 90 degrees, hit it at about 75 or so with good edge , and then throw the trick

Nothing... you will just get back up and wait for the boat 2 come around and it wont hurt a bit, maybe the wind will get knocked out of u.. nothing major.

| In the picture it looks like ur you dont have the rope in both hands which is key cuz if you dont it will stop ur rotation.

| I was thinking the same thing as Slaytwebeling. You let go of your back hand on a tantrum, but for a backroll you must keep both hands on the rope.

ya but if i hold on with both hands i just go to revert. its crazy, maybe its cause i pull to hard with my back hand. i land on the board every time its just that i do a 180 with it. i almost landed a roll to revert the other day, but i figured that it would probably be better to land a regular one first.

I had the same problem when i was trying backrolls. i think you should hold on with both hands but try to keep the handle towards your front hip. now i can do backrolls with and without back hand and i find them much easier to land when i hold on with both hands cause the rope will pull you right around on to your board.

ok ill give that a try. i tried it with two hands on before but i just went to revert. so should i just try to glue it to my front hip? and should i try to put most of my strenght into my front hand so my back hand doesnt pull me to revert? thanks

I didn't cut hard enough and now i have a ruptured ear drum...
Wear a helmet or ear plugs when first learning...
Don't mean to scare anyone off from throwing a back roll, its an fun trick to learn, but be careful cause it hurts like hell when you $%# up...
