Boat speed...

ok... I have been looking all over the forums and see that a lot of people tow at 25-27 mph. That seems really fast to me. I can clear both wakes at 21, which is what I always ride at. I'm not trying to be mean or anything but do they just go that fast cuz they can't clear the wake going slower or is there some advantage to going faster?

you go different speeds depending on how much weight a boat has, or even what boat your in, behind my boat ( inboard outboard , small wake) i go like 17, but behind my friends boat which i mostly ride behind, i go about 24- 26

average speed is 19-22. I go 22-23, just enough to keep the wake from washing out. We have 1000 lbs of ballast plus 3-7 people in the boat.

i usually ride at around 25, if i go to slow i can't cut in right and get all messed up, i use an 81 foot rope though so clearing the wake is not a problem

good god, 81 ft. can you see the boat from all the way back there? You should be in the first set of rollers back that far. Unless you're long line bare footing, you should really think about shortening that up to about 55-70 ft.

A lot of people ride longer lines these days, it's called progression. You can go a lot bigger back there at about 25-27 mph. Before you start throwing BS flags, you might want to know what you are talking about. Most pro's ride 80+ feet and trust me they aren't going 17-19 mph. Try going 21 mph in a boat with 3000 lbs in it at 80 feet. Not gonna happen. The better you get, the bigger you want to take it. So, you lengthen your line, add some weight, and increase your speed.

I ride 2800 lbs plus people in my Launch at 80 feet and 25.2 mph. And that's no stuff.

Yeah dude bouncer and addicted2riding know what you are talking about before you make stupid comments. The more weight you add in your boat the faster you have to go to get a good clean wake. And the faster you go the farther back you can go and not be in the wash. You can cut out more and are able to jump farther with a longer rope so if the wake it clean at 80-85ft back why not ride it back there?

I ride 70, but Im also a boat whore and we run 1400 lbs. of ballast (at the very most), wake isnt stiff at all any further back, altho ive ridden 75 a few times and you can definitely float stuff more back there than 65
