I read your other post and dumbasonwheels89, your board isn't a concave, unless you found a rare one for 119, most concaves are about 199+. Kristian, I'd say demo them, and see which one you like better.

Between those two companies, if you have big feet, go w/ the Cassette. There's also other differences between these two companies that will really tell you which way to go.

Composite or Wood? - I prefer composite, as it's lighter, more responsive and once you get used to it has an equally if not better pop than wood.
Positive: Lighter, more responsive, better ability for the company to put channels and other designs on the bottom of the board.
Downside to composite: composite is generally more expensive, the pop takes getting used too, especially if you have ridden wood for a while.

Wood
Positive: Cheaper, got that snappy wood feel, a bit heavier (for some reason people prefer a heavier skate, I don't know why though, I think the best direction for wakeskating is lighter and smaller boards, but hey, it's personal preference)).
Downside: A lot of boards tend to not be sealed right, a bit heavier.

Grip Tape or foam - I prefer griptape, and just finished putting griptape on my 2003 Byerly after ripping off that EVA deck.
positive: Less distance between you and the board, grippy enough, gives more of that skater feel to it, and griptape is thinner so it can go more up the concave
downside: Griptape is more likely to fall off your deck sooner, can tear you up (but it's wakeskating, if you skateboard I don't think you would really care since you are on water instead of concrete Razz) and you must have shoes, but any real wakeskater wears shoes Smile.

foam
positive: Grippy (I think it's too grippy but anyhoo) won't tear you up when you fall on it, can ride barefoot on it, won't fall off anytime soon.
downside: More expensive, thicker stuff and absorbs some of the ollie (but Scott Byerly's shuvits are huge and he uses the EVA stuff, so I dunno if it absorbs that much) Less responsive on this material (IMO).

Out of those two, I'd def. choose the cassette, I hate the HL miniwakeboardskates. But anyway, I ride a HL and the concave is really pretty ordinary.

Personally I'd wait to see the new mutiny concaves...

I don't know why people define HL as miniwakeboardskates, or miniwakeboards and etc. They are wakeskates, simple as that. Just cause a board isn't wood and has that simple shape we all love, means that those type of boards are the true definition of a wakeskate.

i agree that hyperlite skates are not wakeboards. they have been messing around with concave for just as long as cassette and wood and water don't mix. here is a pic of an old prototype concave design wakeskate. i'll post some pics of my new skate with kicktails in a couple days when i get it.

I was actually pro-hyperlite when I got my grubb 116 but my buddy left it at his house and I rode my cassette for the last couple weeks until I got hurt and I don't think I will go back to the grubb. I was getting better and better every time i rode the cassette.

DockSecret, the guy asked which has the better concave and you answered with the differences between the two companies. Why can't people stick to the subject and answer the question?

Cassette has a much more exaggerated concave, period. The Hyperlite is concave but it is very subtle.

I believe it for 02, but I meant 03. The reason I answered a different question is because I was reading the question at a different angle BigFeeeel. Your answer though didn't answer his question either, in fact just stated the obvious by just looking at the board.

Actually, I am under the impression that big feeel was implying that the cassettes had a better concave because there was more. I know I personally like the cassette concave as opposed to the hype concave for that very reason.

Or, you could interpret it as he was stating the facts about the concaves and then kristian could formulate his own opinion based on what kind of concave he might like. but that's just my take on it...

dude its all about personal preference. i demoded a lot of differe boards before i bought one. i think thatwen it comed to concave , cassette definatley has a lot more concave. HL still has good concave in there boards also. but rememebr the more concave there is generally the pop of it will be more greater.

How does the concave affect the pop as much?

there will never be an end to the hyperlite vs. cassette battle until one goes out of business. Even then it will still probably continue. Both of them make wakeskates, and damn good ones! It's not a matter of which one is better or not, its a matter of personal prefrence.
