Hi guys,
about this small backroll that I'm working on...
I think I'm sort of trying to roll my board over the rope starting this roll fast at wake by bowing my upper body forward and chin forward (bowing myself towards toeside so that the board is following my rotation).
In a way as I'm rolling in air I'm aiming at boats rear with my board and rolling it over the rope...
Should I think it like that?
Or should I think I'm somhow diving my body under the rope leaving the board behind and not forcing it over rope?
Reckon I should find me a live teacher...
Thanks a lot for your efforts to help me out. |

The way you just explained it, even confused me and I can land those like cake.
Think of it more as a cartwheel motion loading the line and riding into the wake almost at a 90 degree angle. Oh and wait for the pop before you look over the lead shoulder. _________________ PEACE

BoardC3: as I saw an experienced guy doing this, he was really in a small package. It seemed like he's rolling on the water not in the air. He's head was almost touching the water but still he was airborne.
I'm still not sure if it is a backroll or some other trick, but atleast very close to backroll. I have not seen such small roll in any videos. Maybe it's from early days?
Thanks for your replies.

You can do a backroll big or small. I personally think bigger is better (FYI, so do the ladies) - it gives you more time to spot your landing, which is crucial for this trick, and make up for mistakes.
Two main things that may help you out:
Hold your edge all the way up the wake, wait for the pop, then throw the trick, you will have plenty of time to rotate - it took me forever to realize this but now I can land them five or six feet out in the flats
Try thinking of the rotation as throwing your head down and around instead of up and over your front shoulder - same motion, just different thinking, I think it makes the rotation easier - almost think of it as back ear to back shoulder and try to look at your front knee - sounds weird but do the head movement and you will see its almost just like looking up and over your front shoulder - good luck _________________ Malibu Boats

How can looking up over your shoulder, be the same as looking at your knee?
Shoul I just concentrate on rt ear to shoulder? |

Try it and you will see, stand like you are on your wakeboard, put your back ear to your back shoulder (right ear to right shoulder if you are regular stance), and look at your front knee, which way is your head moving - up and over your front shoulder.....I told you it would sound weird, just do it and see - that is what helped me learn the trick.....different things work for different people _________________ Malibu Boats
