My dad is takin a business trip to Chicago and surrounding areas in the next week or so and I have to go with him (I threw one to many parties at our house...) I'm takin my boat with me but I was wonderin where the good lakes around that area are? Preferably an area with like civilized people so that maybe I can get some people out on my boat and I don't have to have my dad chillin with me all day, as sweet as that sounds. Any help in this area would be great, thanks.

well, i'm not a native chiacago-an, but i know that lake michigan is huge and that it may not be the best spot. i know there are people in rockford, il. - which i think is a couple hours away from chicago. try a websearch for the rockford marina???

you can go down to the illinois river, about 2 hours south of the city, do a search on Morris, IL for one of the better launches down there.

(BTW, midwest militia boot camp is down there in Ottawa next weekend (August 9th and 10th) should be a huge party.

you can go to the fox river (note that the lower fox river is not the same as the chain of lakes) it's about an hour or an hour and a half from downtown... do a search for the Broken Oar Bar and Marina in Cary, IL.

if you're thinking of the fox, drop me a line... we might be able to meet ya out there and show you some of the areas to be careful of on the river (there's some extremely shallow areas)

I've never been out to the Rock River in Rockford, but I've heard it's got good riding, about 2- 2.5 hours from downtown chicago.

BTW, we go just about everynight on the fox, so if you don't want to have to tow your boat, you're welcome with my crew.
