| a buddy of mine has major cracks on his Mastercraft tower. they started at the welds and have spread to the main structure. It is a 2000 X-Star with a zero flex tower. Anyone had any problems with this, or know of this problem? |

that is the same design of tower that he has. It is to the point he cant even use his boat becasue someone could get seriously injured. _________________ Liquid Force Wakeboards |

| hey i have a 2001 X30 with the 0-flex tower. i had a slight crack in it when i bought it (used). ive been riding with it for over a year and its gone about 3/4 around the weld. im not to worried about it b/c i use it alot. I know the company where they are built. its called Extreme Marine in Maryville TN and they are going to fix mine. i know that yall cant drive here to get it fixed. i would go to a machine shop and have them look at an weld it if it need to be. i called mastercraft and they said that they have never heard of one cracking. but i guess theres more then one |

Guys, if a weld is cracking on ANY tower including ours, something is wrong - even worse the problem is not "stagnant" and will continue getting worse until it breaks. If you see a weld crack then get it fixed before you use it. Better safe than a darwin award winner. If we see one in inspection we dont even mess with it, they go in the recycled aluminum bin.

He should be able to take it to a welding shop and they can TIG weld it.

That's a little dissapointing. Unless it was abused or there was a "event" that caused the damage it's a manufacturing defect I feel should be taken care of by the tower mfg, which certainly is not MC but a third party supplier to MC. _________________ Founder of Monster Tower Wakeboard Towers

| yea, for now just drill a lil hole at the end of the crack to stop it from spreading ... i use a hole puncher thing and hammer a lil dip at the tip fo the crack and its stopp it from spreading for now. but yea any welding place should be able to rpaire it, thats what i mgonna have done ... |

It sounds like a manufacturing defect to me also.
what you need to do is have a lawyer write them a letter, in the letter make sure there are phrases like, serious injury and or death as a result of the defect in your tower design.
That will get there attention and it won't cost much to have the letter done. They will probably only want to do it on a case by case basis, and they may already be doing it, so let us know what happens |
