|
|
| I only have 2" center fins, and I want to get some shorter in height and longer in length kind of fins to put on each side of my board. I was reading Wakeboard mag and Gerry Nunn said he drilled holes in his board to put more fins on, so I thought about doing it. Have any of yall drilled holes in your board for fins? |

| Its fine. If its a foam board you don't have to seal up a thing. It's closed cell foam. It wont soak up water. I've seen custom fin jobs a million times. |

I'd still throw a little resin in there just to be safe.
Here's an idea...
Overdrill the hole then completely fill the hole you just drilled with resin.
When the resin dries redrill with the right size.
This way the foam or core is sealed. Just a thought?

| You should use locktite on the fin screws so you dont have to tighten them too much. the mfgs use blocks where they want the fins, iff you drill elsewhere and tighten the screws too much it will squeeze the base and top surface together crushing the core. |

i would never do that. it could screw up the leak into the board and screw up the wood inside. i highly advise against it _________________ "stupidity will kill you!"

I think locktite will eat away the board wont it. I know it does on a snowbaord.
I would drill the holes then seal it with resin well not completely, just to be safe. _________________

| I agree with Dees. Locktite eats snowboards, paint, and other things. I wouldn't use it on your board or fins. I think my idea with the oversized holes would work really well. |

I added some extra fins to my old Byerly Blunt at the beginning of the year. I bought some of the blue trip side fins and drilled holes for the fins. I put some epoxy over the foam to seal it and just play it safe and it worked great. Hopefully ill have some cash soon so i can actually get a new board instead, but until then I'll have to use my McGyver skills.

I have talked to water ski and wakeboard companies about this. Unless it is honeycomb or a DNA, it is closed cell foam, and water will not hurt it. _________________ www.slobgear.com

Just a clarification, Gerry Nunn added a screw to the fin to make it stronger, not an extra fin _________________ http://www.integrity-wake.com

Have had no hassel with lock tight. run with it all of the time. If the core is foam only, Than you can over tighten it, and rip though it on sliders and kickers, sounds like a good way to get a new board. if that is what you are going for. |
