| any good way to learn how to use this program? i've been playing around with it for a while now and i'm starting to get pissed. i know how to import files and put them on the timeline but that's about it. any help with transitions, slow motion, or cutting the clip to syncranize with the music would be appreciated. |

hey derrick...just thought id let you know that i work for a post-production house (small one) that uses premiere heavily. Granted we dont use it to make wakeboarding videos or anything (itd be nice to) but i could probably help you out with some pointers if youd like. trust me i went through all the frustrations before i got to take a class in it. first thing first...what would you like to know first...i mean what is the most pressing question that you want to know. there is so much ground to cover....I will try and answer your questions the best that i can. just let me know where you want to start. _________________ huh?....what?....merchant marines? |

| i would have to say the thing i would most like to know is how do you cut things and delete it. for instance i would like to cut a little bit of footage off of several video clips i already have on my timeline to syncranize them the way i want to the music. |

| Just use the built-in Help section anytime you want to learn something specific. Thats what I did and it worked great, I started just by importing a few video clips. I learned how to crop them by using the timeline, then I added transitions between clips, then I added some effects and captions. I had good feel of the program in about 4 hours, but now my stupid PC won't recognize my firewire card. |

ok here goes derrick....
on the upper left of your time line there is a little group of buttons 8 i believe....i could be wrong on the number....anyway. included in that group is the razor tool. It looks like a little razor blade. its the last button on the right in the top row. once you have the blade selected (your mouse icon should now be a little razor blade) go to the frame where you want to cut the video clip and cut. the video clip should now be in two parts...you can then proceed to delete the remainder of the clip or cut out some more sections. once you have cut out the sections you want...you can then proceed to rearrange them any way that you need to, to fit the music. i hope this helps for that question. _________________ huh?....what?....merchant marines? |

| dude hell yeah!! seriously i think i'm retarded casue i can't figure anything out on my own. after i cut out a little section how do i pull the video together so when i watch it there isn't a pause where the deleted section is? i know i can pull it over with the selection tool but that only does one clip at a time. i'm guessing there's an easy way to do this so let me know. |

| steelerguy- settle down man i'm pretty much broke right now and switchrider80 has offered to help me out for free. if me asking questions bothers you that much then don't look at the post then. also i've looked in the help area and switchrider cleared up something in one paragraph that i spent about 30 minutes trying to find. once my paychecks start coming in i'll go buy the book but i don't really want to wait until then to start doing this. |

listen....i'm willing to help out and break it down like no book i have ever read can. Honestly I hate reading tech manuals or books on programs...i learn so much better hands-on ...maybe derrick is the same way. I dont think he is slow at all.... No big deal...so please step off.
anyway derrick...to pull ALL the clips together at once (im at work now so i can actually look at the timeline and everything) there is a button that looks like a dotted outline of a box. It is the second button from the left on the top row. click and hold down the mouse button on that button...it will bring up a sub menu. now from that submenu go to the very last button. It should look like the dotted box outline with two arrows, one on top of another, pointing in the same direction. once this button is selected you can now move all the clips at once instead of one by one.
any more questions feel free to post or email. _________________ huh?....what?....merchant marines? |

steelerguy....i apologize if i came off a little rude or anything. youre right though...you can always go to the bookstore and chill there for a while and look up all your questions. A lot of the books do have pictures and stuff to look at. My problem with doing that when i was learning different programs was that i had a problem retaining information that i had just read and/or written down from the bookstore to home. ive got learning problems like that....anyway....i found that if i did it hands on i could retain a lot more of the information that i had just learned. Like i said that is all from MY experience.
i know you arent here to bash anyone...neither am i. I just figured id offer some help in a program that i use everyday. _________________ huh?....what?....merchant marines? |

| hey switch80 i tryed using what you told me and it did move all the clips but i could only move them to the left. what i did was i cut out about 2 seconds of video and now i'd like to compress all the video to the right to pull all the video together and make it fluid. also i'd like to start adding transitions between my individual clips. how would i go about doing that. also thanks for helpingout like you said you can put in a more understandable way than a book. |

Ok...i stared and stared at your question and im a little confused...so i will answer your transition question first.
Transitions can only be used between video track 1A and 1B. If you open up track 1 there should be 1A, 1B, and a transition track in between. Now what you have to do is...drop one video clip onto track 1A then drop your second video clip into 1B...BE SURE that the video clips are overlapping a little bit or the transition will look funky. Now pick whatever transition you like and drop that into the transition track in between the two video clips. You might have to play with the transitions a little bit for it to look right. When you drop in your transition there is going to be a little arrow on the transition that will point up or down if you click on it. If you are going from 1A (top video track) to 1B (bottom video track) you want that arrow pointing down....if you are going 1B to 1A then the arrow should be pointing up...get it?
WARNING!!: From my experience transitions take a long time to render. it could have just been my computer at the time, but I don't like using too many of them. For sports videos i like using hard, fast cuts...or real quick fades using the "rubber bands" i can explain that if you want....but right now i dont want to overkill this post. _________________ huh?....what?....merchant marines? |

HAHAHA i forgot to answer your first problem with the move tool. my bad...anyway. if i get this right you cut out 2 seconds from a video clip and now you want to move the rest of the clip together? technically you should be able to move any video clip either direction...either to the left (towards the beginning of the project) or to the right (towards the end of the project). sometimes...if the video clip has audio attached to it...you have to account for the audio too. If you don't want ANY audiofrom the actual video I suggest you go through and delete it all and just leave the music.
One thing you might try is to add a new video track....there is a small arrow on the upper right pf your timeline...RIGHT click on it to bring up a popup menu and select ad new video track from it. now you have another video track to move things around a little bit easier.
I REALLY hope this helps since i was a little confused about your post....i dont see why you can only move things left and not right....try these out and see what happens.
Later on!
