First, Lake Washington is an alligator haven, but they don't seem to come into the middle of the lake unless there are jet skiers around so we went anyway.
Well, I can't wakeboard to save my life. I can't get up onto the wakeboard at all, neither can my husband. I did learn to water-ski and had a great run the first time and every time after.
Our 13 yo son, on the other hand, can't water-ski to save his life, but really loved wakeboarding. He was up on his second try. I was impressed (I don't know if that is normal or no). He can't do any tricks but I'm thinking riding the board is enough for now. I got him a video, maybe it will help.
We are going to visit Orlando this weekend and my son is already plotting ways to get us to take him after work this week and next so it looks like my investment was definately worth it. Unfortunately, it looks like rain every afternoon so I don't think we will be going.
I didn't get on the computer at all during vacation (my husband and my's agreement or I would have ended up working), so I didn't get the suggestion for lube, I'm guessing it is for the foot part of the bindings?
I'm going to try it again this weekend, but I don't like getting water up my nose when I eat it and it's really frustrating not being able to stand up.
Another question: My husband and I both always have to go out so one of us can be the spotter. How do you guys handle this or do you always go out in groups? Should I search the boards for the info?
Thanks for all of the info so far ). I'm thinking of videotaping my son so when/if he gets better he can look back and laugh at his start up days.

Lube, or soap, is used to help you feet into the bindings. Advanced bindings are hard to get in, and sometimes out, of. You guys might want to invest in a wakeboard instructional video, Higher education or detention. The laws vary from state to state regarding the spotter. Some states, ex. NY, require a spotter plus driver whether you have mirror or not. Florida requires either spotter OR mirror. So it is no problem here. Either way, most boarders pay no attention to the law and ride without spotter. If we all had to wait to board until we found a third/spotter, I would say that our wakeboarding trips would be greatly diminished. _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

Maybe the reason why you and your husband can't get up on the wakeboard is because it is made for you son's weight. That's what happened when I started wakeboarding. My little brother got up really quickly because the board was big enough for him. It was too big and he couldn't control it. I tried, it held me and it was the first wakeboard I ever had. It was too small for my parents at the time and they couldn't even get out of the water in about 20 tries. Maybe you should find out what size wakeboard your using if you are using one and not different ones.. |

Thanks for the advice! I got the "Detention" video. I watched part of it last night. I think I will have to watch it by myself (without my 4 yo peaking over my shoulder) to understand it because I think I missed alot since I couldn't pay complete attention to it.
For the board size, I will have to do some checking around. My husband is about 200 lbs so that could definately be the difference. He is about 50 lbs heavier than my son. I'm 20 lbs lighter than my son so I think my problem is that I have no balance. Still, stuff like that has never stopped me b-4 so I'll be going out again. I can't fall forever (I hope)
Thanks again!!

You should defintly take a day and spend it at OWC. The guys there are really cool and will give you lots of really good advice on how to learn to get up. Plus the cable wont wear you out so you can ride all day.
