My little bro just turned 13 and the first invert he's attempting is a TS indy backroll. He's actually getting a lot closer than I thought he would considering he rarely jumps TS. He has fully rotated a few after 5 tries or so and keeps the handle with him pretty good. I told him I didn't think this was an easy invert to try but he insists on doing this one. Is this common or is he just weird?

He just hucks himself and never says it hurts. I think he's taken one too many to the head

Also, what are some tips for this trick so I can help him stick it. Approach, rotation, etc. I know that should've been asked in the "Trick Tips" forum but I don't feel like making 2 seperate posts

Naw, I know a couple people with the ts backroll as their first invert. It just feels more natural to some.

Just make sure he holds his edge through the wake and really takes it straight up (tall off the wake, waiting til airborne to start the flip). It's a nice feeling move.
