Oh yeah back to the point of this forum, i actually think a sitting dock start is easier, sit right on the edge of the dock holding the handle(obviously) and when the line gets tight the boat drivber should hit the accelerator and you should pop right up. _________________

| for deep water starts, its like somebody helping you up off the groud, just relax, dont force it or pull on the rope, when you feel your butt hit the back of your legs just stand up, if your boats not that strong it may help if you point the nose forward a little |

If you are in decent shape and fairly light, then a deep water start is really easy. Just sit in the tuck position with your elbows outside of your knees and your arms mostly extended. Once you're ready the boat driver should give it gas nice and easy (not too slow, but they don't need to slam it full throttle). As you feel the pressure from the rope just hold and on pull you back foot under your butt. Don't stand up too soon and don't try to pull yourself up - just hold on and let the boat do the work and stay in the tuck position. Once you're up move the rope to your front hip and try to relax.
For a beginner it can really help if you set your bindings all the way back and then setup the angles so the rear is at 0 degrees and the front is about 15 degrees. This will make it super easy to get up and go straight. As you get comfortable getting up and cruising then move your bindings to a more centered position with both feet at 0 degrees or slightly ducked out so you can ride switch. |

I started with deep water starts and from there I was able to get decent and then I dock started first try so IDK that might say that deep water starts r the key to all starts on a wakeboard period uh idk what im talking about. _________________ Slob Gear

I had a friend that learned at owc so it was a dock start, then he went behind a boat, and couldn't get up. _________________ ow thats gonna hurt tomorrow

Hi, all... while we're on the subject... I'm a newbie attempting dock starts on a cable tow setup; I've failed more times than I care to remember, so maybe someone can help me out here. I've had hundreds of helpful tips from all the locals (lean back, don't try so hard, let the cable pull you up, etc), but consistently bite the dust in various and amusing ways. I'm set up to ride goofy, mainly because the harsh angle required to get off the dock makes that a bit more sane... have tried the '0 degree back binding, 15 degree front binding', on a beginner's board etc., but usually end up getting pulled straight over. I can water ski, snow ski, and kneeboard with no problemo, so there's hope, but have never succeeded at wakeboarding. Waaaaaaaaaaaaa. Any advice would be most welcome!!
Thanks, guys. |

I just started yesterday dude and I can tell you one thing.....I got up 2 out of like 9 times and I'm soar today Well any way...when the driver starts accelerating pretty much put your feet under your butt and your up...the pressure under the board actually sucks you up and it's feels awesome when you get up...but be sure to if you are used to the goofy position (right foot forward) or if your used to your left foot forward...get it right!! because both times I got up I accidently went goofy and I'm not used to it so first time I got up I did a revert (almost wiped out) and hit some other boats wake and lost it but the second time I got up I went goofy again and tryed doing revert and did a nasty face plant that actually ripped my off my board....bloody nose and my eyes are all blood shot today....so get the right foot position cuz you'll go to the right of the boat if you go goofy and your not used to it...well I hope this helps a fellow nooby....oh and if your board is carrying to much water but it deeper into the water and face your left foot forward (if your not goofy footed)
AND IF ANYTHING IN THIS SOUNDS WRONG WILL SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME!! _________________ Why Walk When You Can Wake? |

| one way to see if you are goofy or regular- stand on a dock and get someone to shove you from behind and whichever foot you put out first to catch yourself is which foot you are. right-goofy, left-reg. u get the picture! |

i don't think that pushing thing works cuz i had someone to it to me and i did my right foot but then i knew it was wrong cuz i've snowboarded and skated regular. i think u just put out a certain foot depending on how soft/hard the ground is, if it's grass or dirt or someting harder, if you're on flat land or a slight hill, if you're gunna turn and smack them ect. _________________

Hey. While we are on the subject of starts, how exactly do I do a dock start. I just really don't understand. This is my second season of wakeboard, but I barely got out last year. Also, I don't know if you guys have seen the move Free 4 All, but there is this one guy in it, I think his name is Rob Struhark or something like that, but he gets up in a weird way. I saw it and thought it was really cool, so if anyone knows how to do that please let me know because I am stoked about trying it when I go up to the lake this weekend. Thanks!
