How much air to pull a air railey?

I've got a 89 Supra Comp with a tower and 900# of ballast in it. I can easily go w2w with about 3' of air at my highest point of the jump. Air raileys are my favorite trick so do you think I have the air and therefore the wake to pull it off?

dude i have that same boat and about half that in ballast and im getting about 6 and a half feet of air

hmmm...what's your secret Cap'n? I'm edging progressively aand keeping the board on edge till I pop off the wake, I have the handle low to load the line up with tension. anything else?

What is the minimum height you would say for raleys? I'm thinking abt doing one but i dunno if i can jump high enough, i can get about 6ft or so, is this enough?

Im not sure what your problem is cause ive never seen you ride, but when i cut i start standing up then when i get to the hardest point in my cut its like im sitting in a chair. Then when i hit the wake i straighten out off the top and it pops me up.

There is no "Amount of Air" that you need. There is no magic number. VIP- if you are going 6 feet up on your W2W jumps, why are you bothering asking if you are high enough to try a Raley? Ever heard of a Square Raley (Air Air Raley)? You can pull Raley's off of no wake at all. I say go for it, you find out real quick if you are "high enough" to try one.

Yeah ive heard of a square raley, but the guys that do them have good technich etc. and i was just asking for a rough estimate. But i will try one and see how i go.

yes an ollie raley of sorts ... but there is a way to load the heel outta the line and get shot up into the air by releasin from it and throwin their hands above their head at the same time ... cable riders do this all the time ... I think I read an article in WBM not too long ago over it ..... and dude work on your edgein technique .. u are prolly comein off edge as u go up the wake and dont realize it ... im riden behind a 17 bass boat with no weight and usually get 4-5 ... its all about a stong edge and line tension coupled with timeing .... just get in anice comfertable crouched position and coast into the wake really shovein your heels down more and more ... then when u hit the trough sit on it and shove your heels down as u stand up off the wake ... thats prolly where u lose your pop ... make sure all your weight stays on your heels .... but ne ways thats a whole other cut than a raley cut ...... u get on your edge hard as soon as possible and as your riden up the wake u let off it allowin the board to start driftin back underneath u so its flat ... the wake helps kick it out behind u like this ... then just lock your eyes on the boat and yank the handle straight back to your knees and stomp it ... just dont give up if u dont hit it first try bub cause thats just how progression works

All you have to do on the Raley is go out as far as you can outside the wake, then cut back in as hard as you can, making sure that your hardest edge is going into and through the wake. Right as you pop, try to stand up as tall as you can and look towards the boat.

Do this and you will get laid out into a nice Raley... Once you get extended out just pull it back in. No problem.

Raleys are pretty darn easy if you just commit to the trick. Cut like a mad S.O.B.!!

cheezwiz y would you want to do that when you can try to pull it off. it definatly wont hurt you if you dive in da water though i do it all the time in pools and stuff.
just make sure you get it on film for me

work your way up to it. learn to do a 360, backroll, tantrum, etc...learn to get comfortable with getting the board over your head with inverted tricks, after the first one it feels natural. I went out the other day and for fun tried a tantrum after i got my backroll and it felt right. of course i face planted but its ok.

If you are getting 3 feet of air, it sounds like when you come off the wake, your butt/hips/chest are NOT over your board. To get the board to pop up through your legs, and into your uper body, get thoes hips up over your board when you come off the wake.

I was out with a guy the other day riding a Spider with Moby bindings and he got fully extended on the raley but didn't quite get his feet back under him, and he bit it so hard that he ripped one of the bindings right off the board stripping the 2 screws out. If you are not going to make it, I dive in probably is your best bet to survival.

I was riding with a kid who's sole trick was an air raley. He wasn't getting half the height I was but he could pop them and and pull them back in almost every time. Once he wrecked though and split the seam on his short's leg in two.
