Any recommendations for a quality head unit for a reasonable amount of cash (i.e. under 200 bucks or so)?
The Clarion unit in my Launch will not play CD-Rs (or even half of my store-bought discs) and skips like crazy even in mild chop...it must die.

I'm a big fan of alpine head units. One of the best out there IMO. I've had alpine stuff for years, and it's still going strong. Getting one for $200 might be a problem though. I wouldn't go too skimpy on your head unit though. Go look around, you see Alpine is well worthe the extra money. They are more concentrated on sound reproduction and less fancy smanchy crap like .
Good luck _________________ Riders Inc. |

| Look at getting one that will play MP3/WMA files. For some reason, MP3s don't skip much (mine hasn't skipped yet) & you can fit a sh**load of music onto 1 disc in that format. WMA is supposed to offer better sound quality at the same compression rate, & it might be so - my ears just aren't good enough to tell the difference. I picked up a Panasonic deck that plays MP3/WMA/CDR/CDRW & has a separate sub-out w/sub volume control for $229. I've been very happy with it. There was another model one step below it without the sub-out, it might have been under $200 - I can't remember, but it was real close. |
