The guy is obviously an A-hole.

My question is everyone cool with lifetime ban and being forced to sell team?

I understand it is quite a conundrum and puts the rest of the league in fiscal duress(advertising, player dissatisfaction, etc.). I guess I have a hard time with the thought police running rampant and slippery slope to he next idea that is, "not with the times". Further relying on Al Sharpton and the like to give a barometer on the state of racism in the US is like asking an umbrella salesman for a weather forecast.

Personally I would be more inclined to let the market(advertisers, attendance, player contracts) deal with it. I guess memories are short though.

My thoughts are that the NBA wanted him gone anyway, Stern didn't have the ballsack to do it, and Silver got his opportunity to 1) get rid of Bigotron and 2) establish this the Silver era of the NBA.

This is a lot like the HOA conversation - Sterling damn well knew what was in the NBA Constitution and Bylaws. TL;DR - too bad. Doubt that was the case, Sterling is an (ambulance chasing) attorney.

I think the board will vote nearly unanimous to boot him, if for no other reason than to not be the one that voted in Sterling's favor and the crappy PR that would follow.

Anyhow, he's an old fart with some not surprising old fart feelings on other races. The big difference is that he actually acted on those feelings in the past, and he got his ass handed to him (record settlement at the time).

FWIW: he might be right, Koreans do keep their homes pretty clean. Rolling Eyes

My thoughts are that I really don't care what some wealthy a-hole thinks or how it makes other multi-millionaire employees feel. Does it really to a disservice to the black community that a really rich white guy doesn't like them? Sterling doesn't seem to have an issue having them on his team.

Outside of the team, he has already been slapped with a suit and lost. What he was doing there did have an impact on the community at large.

But outside of the 8 guys on his bench, his coach and probably a handful of employees, who cares?

Also - i don't want our president making statements about this. This is sports and is beneath him. What I do want our president to discuss is how 40 veterans died due to the VA hospitals having a secret waiting list for people that had serious issues. That is a serious problem, not some NBA owner being mean to black people.

bread and circuses...

NBA allows convicted felons, rapists and other degenerates, but say you don't like your mistress bringing blacks to your game = banned for life. He didn't even use the "N" word... Agreed, the punishment is simply fodder to appease the masses, and a tool for someone to step in and get a hell of a discount on the blemished franchise. The fact is that a racist is more appalling (appealing) than a rapist these days.
That said, I love the sweet irony of a liberal democrat hypocrite about to receive his lifetime achievement award from the NAACP eaten by the PC machine. #awesome

I read the wikipedia article about the guy yesterday. I found out that not only does he have a past of being a bigot, screwball, and an overall crappy person, but he also holds one NAACP lifetime achievement award, and was about to receive a 2nd. He has a history of legal disputes with girlfriends, but his wife is still married to him.

I really don't care how the NBA handles it. Honestly, this may be good publicity for the NBA. I assume a fair amount of the NBA fan base are black, and I bet they're happy with the way the NBA is handling this with the lifetime ban, maximum possible fine, and forcing him to sell the team.

I do think it's foolish for our president to make statements about this as our president, but he's a basketball fan and maybe it's important to him. You have to remember that he president is a normal human too. I'm fine with Barack Obama, basketball fan/American sharing his opinion. I think it's foolish for Barack Obama, POTUS, to put the weight of his position for or against the cause.

That I can agree with

Sterling is not a democrat. Furthermore, his NAACP awards were bought and paid for (which speaks volumes about what a POS the NAACP is).

PS: Do yourself a favor, stop listening to Drudge, or any other politically charged "news" outlet.

I do not think the punishment fits the crime. Jim Irsay got caught driving under the influence with a ton of pills and cash on him and he doesn't have to sell his franchise? Rob Ford smokes crack and doesn't have to stop being governor? Riley Cooper says the n word on video and doesn't even get suspended? I understand this was not his first strike, but Adam Silver was using him to make a statement.

I'll have you know, Customs Agents stopped Mayor Ford in Chicago and sent him back to Canada for impersonating a Governor!

We have Marion Barry, we don't need Rob Ford, unless he can pull off being a governor...then we'll take him!

What is really ironic is that a US citizen with a DUI conviction can't cross the border into Canada, but the Canadians send Mayor Crackhead to the US for treatment.
