5 years ago today.
My nephews and niece are doing very well. We didn't get custody of Jacob, but my in-laws were granted grandparent's rights and they get him once a month. He's a happy fun kid, as you'd expect a 6yo to be. The other 3, Kyle, Katie, and Cody are all great kids. Kyle is 19 now, and is a volunteer firefighter and does a lot of work with the local Explorers program. Katie and Cody are both straight A students. Katie looks just like her mom, and should have no problem going to UNC (Charlotte) or another local 4 year. Cody is 14, and he's hopefully going to really get into HS sports, because he's got the size (5'10" right now) to really stand out.
Her killer is rotting in jail. He's 3 years in to a hopefully 16 year stint in the hole. He could be out in 8, but that would be an anomaly as far as parole goes in Nevada with this type of case. It's too bad they won't put him in general pop, but I'm sure spending years upon years in segregation/solitary is pretty mindf*cking in its own regard.
RIP Kim... _________________

Based on what I've read from ex-cons on reddit and in one of John McCain's books, solitary is the worst kind of punishment. As a POW, John McCain got the shitt beat out of him daily and endured all kinds of physical and mental torture. He said that the worst torture was when he was in solitary with nothing but his own thoughts. |

NV Supreme Court unanimously rejected his appeal yesterday - which, coincidentally, would have been Kim's 37th birthday.
| Las Vegas Review Journal wrote: | LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL CAPITAL BUREAU
CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously upheld an 8-to-20-year manslaughter sentence given to former FBI agent Edward Preciado-Nuno for killing his son’s girlfriend in Las Vegas in 2008.
Preciado-Nuno, 65, beat Kimberly Long to death by striking her 13 times in the head with a hammer. He claimed self-defense.
In the decision, justices rejected arguments by Preciado-Nuno that a juror should have been dismissed because of questions about her impartiality and that numerous in-chamber conferences lawyers held with District Judge Donald Mosley should have been recorded.
Although the conferences should have been recorded, the court found “this misstep does not warrant reversal.”
The justices also found that a juror Preciado-Nuno wanted dismissed had “demonstrated the ability to set aside any preconceived prejudices.”
Preciado-Nuno, a 25-year FBI agent and a former Marine who served in Vietnam, came to Las Vegas to try to settle problems between the victim and his son, Jeffery Long, who had had a five-year relationship.
According to new accounts, Preciado-Nuno wanted to gain custody of his grandson.
He apologized at the sentencing hearing for killing Long. |
They messed up Jeff's name. His name is Jeffrey Preciado, not Jeffrey Long. Long was Kim's married last name from her prior marriage. _________________
