We're thinking of getting a small CC gun. What are your recommendations and why? We would probably lean towards getting what my wife would be comfortable shooting. She has shot several guns and been very comfortable...bigger is better to her (both caliber and grip/size). _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

You want a small cc gun, but bigger is better? What is she comfortable with? Big, big difference shooting a compact v full size gun.
You will probably want to stick with 9mm or 38 for a woman. Go to a gun shop, feel them and shoot them (if possible)
What size are you looking for (we talking short pockets or purse carry)? What budget? What capacity would you want? Revolver or pistol? Single or double stack? Do you want polymer, metal, alloy? |

| I would suggest 9mm or .380. She can probably handle a .40 if "bigger is better", but a large round in a small gun can be hard to control. I would suggest a double action revolver for a woman as they're easy to load and less prone to jamming if shot with a soft wrist. You can also shoot rat shot from a revolver which is like a shotgun shell. It's less prone to penetrate walls if you're wife is killing someone inside the house, but it still has good power at close range. |

Glock just released a single stack .380 (Glock 42), but if you shoot a bunch .380 is pretty hard to get (vs 9mm) Simple to clean and maintain. Walther PPK380 another good option in .380.... and it comes in pink.
I hate the small Luger LCP type guns, as they kick like a bugger and are hard on the wrist. BUT... They are very concealable, if she really values that over comfort. |

XD 9 sub compact or Glock 26. Nothing fancy or pretty but you know they're going to run. I'd also check into a weekend or longer course. I did a 4-day handgun course and it really taught me more than the basic legal requirements. Also, adds some confidence running 600+ rounds in a time pressured environment. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

I used to carry my .40 glock, but a year ago got my .380 S&W Bodyguard. I love how small it is but still feels and shoots great. I need to buy the clip for it so it wont fall through my pants from time to time. _________________

| 380s are too weak imo, would never use as a primary weapon |

She is comfortable with our XD40 and she likes the feel of the larger gun in her hand. We realize a carry gun will probably not give us that option, since we want it small enough that either of us could carry it on our person. We're pretty open on what type of weapon we get and we're looking at a budget range of $600 or less. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

Yeah, I was thinking the longer the better on the course...we'll see what we can find. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

| Xd sub compact in 9 would be good, i have it in 40 and like it a lot. It is a double stack which will make it a little wider |

I wouldn't over-think it. Almost any known name-brand pistol that she can understand, operate the controls, shoot accurately, and hold comfortably will work fine.
Depending on her hand size, I'd start with a 9mm single stack (SA XDs) for small hands or the Toyota Camry/Tercel of CC, the G19/G26. If you're shopping, I wouldn't completely overlook revolvers.
You're way ahead of the game by already realizing that small caliber, tiny pistols are a painful to operate and shoot, which usually translates to less practice.
Happy hunting! _________________

I thought I'd never own a pocket gun, but I love mine. We shoot in the yard from 7 to 25 yards, and at 25 you wont be accurate but you still will hit body consistantly if you're decent. After years of carrying a .40 Glock, I bought a Walther P22(for fun and carry, dont like it). I liked the smaller size but it was still annoying for someone like me working around the shop with it. Quite happy switching to the bodyguard. Small enough to not be annoying if you have it secured with either a clip, holster, or pocket. Only thing I disliked was the amount of trigger pull, but coming from a Glock which has 1/2" pull anyway I got used to it pretty quickly. If you're wife likes the grip of a bigger gun, you may just be stuck toward a bigger gun though. _________________

P22 for CC?
I have some buddies that picked up sig mosquitoes after checking them out side by side with the P22.
I'd like to get a PPQ but CC is basically impossible for me unless I carry on the ankle. Not to mention the difficulty in getting a permit in my state/county. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

I like the Rugar LCP 380 for its small size and light weight . Its easy to conceal even in the summer with light clothing on. It does have a bit of a kick to it and will make your thumb hurt after 50 rounds. For CC its not that important in all likeliness it will never be used and if it is the last thing on your mind will be your thumb.
My wife has a Kahr 9mm with a CC purse size and weight are not as important but its still small and light.
The CC purse opens on the top like a normal purse it also has a side zipper to a hidden pocket to keep a gun unless you unzip the side nobody will ever know you are carrying.

I bought my wife a lc9 and we both hated it. So I sold it and she now ccs with a gen 4 glock 26 and I cc with a gen 4 glock 27. We shoot at the range a lot and notice many other guns not rechambering due to the weak wrist of many of the ladies. We let them try the glock 26 and have not had one single issue yet. To me that is definitely more important than looks.
Good luck. |

I still carry the FN FiveseveN. My wife likes it as well. Its a bigger grip, but lighter than most 9mm or 40. No recoil. Holds 20rds standard, and 30 with small extended mag.
As I looked at carry stuff, I became more annoyed at the weight of the weapon, than the size. Ive carried a compact 40 and always felt it was an anchor in either the shoulder or IWB. the FiveseveN has that mousegun feel when conceiled, without the mousegun feel while shooting. I hate having my last two fingers hanging off the end of a grip.
And its fun to go shoot. Ive avoided buying pocket guns because they are NOT fun to shoot. _________________ TONA
