| Quote: | SAN FRANCISCO -- Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday officially declared that California is in a drought emergency, as the state struggled with the least amount of rainfall in its 153-year history, reservoirs were at low levels and firefighters remained on high alert.
"We are in an unprecedented, very serious situation," Brown said. |
This potentially can affect the entire nation. Get ready to pay a king's ransom for a lot of your fruits and vegetables.
Mandatory rationing is on its way. If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down.

This is bad news for ag. Looks like the SoCal reservoirs are full. The north is a different story as our water is sent south for ag and flows are managed for fish and flood control. Basically we are f'd.

I caught it...
Here's the lake closest to chavez and me. There's old mining towns that are being exposed because the water is so low. Might be able to collect some of my old sunglasses left on the bottom soon. (actually had a buddy lose his wallet in lake Oroville get a call from a kid and his grandfather returning a wallet lost 5+ years ago.)

Nor*Cal, What's interesting (and somewhat annoying) to me about this (other than the very low water levels) is the local news acting like this is the first time Mormon Island has been exposed. I can recall at least 4 or 5 times in my life that this has happened. I have more memories of the lake being crazy full than crazy empty.
Anyhow, I definitely noticed that Pyramid is basically topped off the last several times I rolled over the Gvine.
Being in Politicky, do you have any idea other than NIMBY why we don't have desalination down in So-Cal yet?
On a side note: I just got my bill for the time period in which my pool was filled. During the 31 day period, we used 2,600cuft of water (19,450 gallons). We filled a (roughly) 15,000 gallon pool, had the decks cleaned a few times, but otherwise only used water for inside the house (landscape turned off). In the month of July, we used over 5,000cuft of water (37,000 gallons). I showed this data to my wife, whom I've always tried to explain why I prefer a low-maintenance Xeriscape type yard (at least in the front). Her jaw basically dropped. She finally understood why I spent so much time and effort planning and correcting and dialing in our sprinkler systems. Going forward, we should be using far less water while getting a much nicer looking yard.

Intake is tricky with designated protected coastal and ocean habitat but overcoming those difficulties the costs are big ($1billion+).
There's a desal project being built in Carlsbad, expected to go online around 2016. There was also one near Monterey that got nixed, would have been good for ag, south of the delta.
