| I'll be in San Diego with my family (wife and 2 year old boy) for 5 days in February. My wife wants to take our son to the zoo and Legoland and she wants to spend a little time shopping. I've found the zoo and Legoland on the map, but don't know where the shopping areas are. Anyone know of a nice beach hotel, within ~10 miles of the zoo, and hopefully closer to shopping? |

Wes,
If you want beach within range of everything, your best bet is Mission Bay. You can find a nice waterfront hotel downtown (the Hilton Bayside comes to mind), but definitely nothing beach-walk/family friendly
On Mission Bay, I've been to weddings or events at the Hyatt Regency, Paradise Point (probably the best location and looks the nicest from what I can tell), and the Bahia resort, and the locations are pretty ideal. Right on the water and quick access to the 8. Sea World is also right there. I have no experience inside the rooms themselves, however.
Shopping is a little out of my expertise, but there's a huge, nice outlet mall right by LegoLand in Carlsbad. Horton Plaza is the big shopping mall downtown.
Give me a ring when you're in town. _________________ "I'm scared if I stop drinking all at once, the cumulative hangover will literally kill me." |

Carlsbad has a Premium Outlet Mall near Legoland. I5 same exit as Legoland
La Americas outlet Mall is near the border. When you see the sign saying
"Last American Exit" for I5 or 805 take it. If not you'll be sitting in line heading into Mexico.
Westfield UTC -La Jolla you can catch that off of I5 or 805
Mission/Fashion Valley - use either I 8 or 163
Horton Plaza not too far away from the Zoo.
Malls all pretty much spread throughout the county. The top 2 have the most to offer. But that also depends upon what you wife is looking for.
Too bad you'll be too early for the flower season. There's a huge floral display next to Legoland & Calrsbad Mall in the spring.
Don't for get about the Wild Animal Park aka Safari Park in Escondido. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

Nice Hotel. It's a really nice walk on the boardwalk if you head south. It will take you to this place:
http://www.belmontpark.com
Roberto's is right across the street from the Roller coaster and they have great carne asada burritos there.
Can't remember the name but near Crystal Pier, there's this hole in the wall place that has a pretty good breakfast. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |
