Opted for Belize over New years vacation this year! dirt cheap flights...

Arriving on the 30th and heading out to Ambergriss Caye for 3 days (including NYE), then into the rain forest at Ian Anderson's Caves branch for 3 days, then likely down south for a few beach days.

Anyone have any recommendations / insights? small place, driver friendly, lots of snorkelling.

Only real high item on my list is to go Whale Shark diving, though may not be the best time of year to find them.

If you dive, take tons of pictures. It's on my list of dive trip destinations.

We will be driving once we get back on the mainland, and likely take a road trip in guatemala for Tikal (Mayan Ruin).

Take some pics and let me know if there are any kiters in the area. We were going to book belize but ended up booking the grenadines instead. Belize is on my list for sure!

amazing trip.

got caught up in a couple of days of bad weather, but not much you can do about it.

day 1-3 in Ambergriss Caye (San Pedro). Spent new years here. hilights were spear fishing for our own dinner with hawaiian slings and cooking it on the beach. Party on NYE on the beach. renting a golf cart and trying to drive to mexico, only to be foiled by puddles that went over our knees.

Day 3-6 rented a car and drove to the interior and stayed at http://www.cavesbranch.com/. Very cool place and a high recommend for adventurous families / couples. Did the Black Hole drop (300') and then was rained out of the waterfall climb.

Day 6-10 drove to Placencia in the south of Belize. Lazy beach town, got in some paddle boarding, more snorkeling, little bit of beach time and general relaxation.

In all, fantastic place to go. People are very friendly, food was amazing.....mix of caribbean creole and latin american traditionals.
