Does the DeadRise make the wake bigger?

I was just wondering if the dead rise on a boat is a factor to make the wake bigger. I am thinking of buying a boat with 19 degree deadrise with this boat throw and ok wake. It dead rise isnt a factor in the size of the wake. What is?

Plus, you usually only see dead rise measured at the transom. Most boats have different dead rise at different points of the hull.

Dead rise can create a crappy wake that's too wide, that's for sure. Deep v's, like the runabouts create wakes that take a pile of energy to clear because they create a wake that gets wide really fast. That's why there are wakeboard specific boats to begin with. They produce narrower wakes. Hence, you don't need as much speed or pop to clear them, and nothing's worse than "casing" the other wake. To the pros, it doesn't matter as much, but to the rest of us we need all the help we can get. Dead rise and wake size isn't as important as wake shape and wake width. Don't blow your money on trying to make a runabout into a wakeboard boat. Buy a wakeboard boat because the sport is less dangerous that way, you'll progress faster, have tons more fun and get way more respect than if you have Dad's fishing boat with a swingset bolted on and a few fatsacks under the seats.

What if we don't all live in a perfect world and we can't just go out and buy a wakeboard specific boat?

Should we just quit, because we won't get respect from other wakeboarders while in a runabout?

well said man im not loaded and my parents do want to spend more than 20g's on a boat. To stormrider if you have an good used boat websites that are remotely close to Saskatchewan Canada that would be great.

i wakeboard behind a BOSTON WHALER, the wake is really, wide, and really short, but its still fun as hell who cares what he rides behind, if it makes a big wake go for it, you can learn to jump far to clear the whole wake

ok now how does having a wakeboard specific boat make the sport safer? and im willin to bet that i have just as much fun as you do cuz i dont worry about gettin respect. but i guess i have to quit cuz i dont have a wakeboard specific boat.

last i checked my x-5 threw out a much wider wake than my old runabout did. maybe you've ridden behind some crazy boat but mine was actually smaller in width. and for those of you i'm def not rich. the only reason why i got a decent boat from my rents is cause we moved from the city to my lil cottage in the country which is right on my lake.

An inboard is much safer because there is way less chance of coming in contact with prop, they will not capsize as easy either. We will not own another i/o because of personal experience with feet and prop contact(accidents do happen), my cousin is a very lucky person.

All boats have dead rise. Except for extremely flat bottomed skiffs.

Also, if one of you is so worried about safety, don't bring you inboard out into heavy chop.

If you don't live in a perfect world and can't buy a wakeboard specific boat buy an old 2001 hull Nautique, they produce some of the best wakes for the money...

I sold my old inboard ski boat NOT because I couldn't get the wake bigger, it was way too wide. You could only go out to 65 feet at the most, even guys that ride at 85 behind other boats could only ride at 65 behind my old boat... wake width is a key thing to keep in mind....
