Man was it a sh*tty day! About 10 oclock this morning I started to feel a dull ache, and 5 minutes later I could barely stand. I never realized kidney stones hurt before they even reach the bladder, and hurt is an understatement. If you stuck a dagger in my left side, it wouldnt have felt worse than my right side... Shocked

So in the end how did it go? Me in excruciating pain in the truck and at the hospital waiting room, for it all to disappear before the doctor came. I got an MRI to confirm it, but otherwise I didnt get any pain meds during or after so I spent couple grand today for a pat on the back saying it's all easy sailing from here... Confused Laughing At least give me some drugs so the next time something happens I can pop one for the car ride/waiting room!

For me stones have come in a cluster. If I was in your shoes I'd start drinking a lot of water asap.

The only good thing from the ER visit was the CT Scan, said I had the 1 stone, and it had already passed through the worst part. Peed 4 times since and still not sure if it's still in me or not.

Kidney stones suck. Them moving from the kidney to the bladder is the toughest part, when they're in the ureter. However, I'd HIGHLY recommend sitting to pee until you pass it. The ones I've had weren't bad to pass because they were busted up by ultrasound. But I've got a buddy who was passing one at a urinal and the pain literally put him down right there. Pissed himself and all over the place.

Meh, they have never hurt me when pissing them out and I have had some large enough to stop up my pee hole for a second. Moving from the kidney to the bladder is when the suckiness happens.

^this. I stopped eating nuts basically altogether, and don't eat sunflower seeds at all (because they were salted to hell).

Haven't taken multi-v's in years. There is enough vitamin content in the food most of us eat.

If you are prone to a repeat session, I would talk to a dietician about getting things on the best path possible to avoid. They don't get any better with time!

This is something I haven't heard before, but don't have a lot of experience in the kidney stone arena. What is the reasoning behind not taking a multi-vitamin?

Okie Boarder,

Too much of a good thing is no longer a good thing. I'm not 100% on that, but I'd imagine thats what it is.

I've had dozens if not hundreds of stones and every procedure possible to remove them. I got them like clock work until my doctor prescribed medical grade Magnesium. If you have Calcium Oxalate stones look into it...

tbonez holy crap...

Oakey My body obviously can't process the extra whatever is in a multi vitamin. I'm assuming the rules are the same down there as they are in Canada. there's really no regulations put on the Vitamins up here. They list what's in them but they may not necesarily contain the exact stuff that they say they contain on the box. Or may something extra that's not listed.

That was according to my Dr.

Bambamski, they are pretty specific down here listing all ingredients in the item. Lots of supplements have to have an additional flip-open label to get all of the info needed on the bottle.

So, are the MV's bad for everyone or only those that are sensitive to their ingredients?

It's easier if you look at it from a mathmatical perspective...

If your daily diet is healthy with vegetables and fruits containing 80-100% of the vitamins and minerals your body needs then the kidneys don't need to filter out any excess.

Now take that same daily diet and add a MV with "200% the daily needed" this and that. Now you have 200% more vitamins or minerals than what your body can absorb so now the kidney's have to process the poisonous levels out of your blood stream and dump them into your bladder to be disposed of. If your taking a MV and your urine is dark yellow/brown that would be most of the vitamin getting pi$$ed down the drain.

FYI... My father in law suffers from kidney stones and his doctor told us that the energy drinks like Monster, Red Bull, etc... have contributed to a huge spike in kidney stone production in the 20-30year old category. Apparently all the ingredients that help you stay awake and give you "energy" are really hard on the kidneys.

Chavez

we list everything on our vitamin packages as well.

I think my dr was saying and what I was trying to say is that it's not regulated very well. Whatever agency is looking at these products aren't making sure what is in the vitamins are what's exactly on the packaging...

I'm sure they're pretty accurate, but my dr was basically saying the multi V you're taking could cantain 200% of your daily requirement of vitamin D vs 100% on the box....

All I know is once I altered my diet and stopped taking Vitamins I haven't had another kidney stone... knocking on wood right now.

I wonder how long a stone can take to make. I didnt know if this was something created in previous weeks/months or something building for years.

Energy drinks thing is interesting, as I used to drink at least one monster or redbull(big one) a day but in the last year or so I've cut it to a couple a month.

I found creatine, excessive sweet tea, spinach and high protein diet caused a ggreat deal of mine..I had a full stop on the kidney stones when I started hitting the lemonade and magnesium. There is a great deal of medical evidence for both of these "cures" and your Urologist can validate my statements. These are not "internet" cures another words.

I had completely clear kidneys from multiple procedures and within four months I had five stones in my kidneys...
