So what is the deal with my texts now? When I send back and forth with an iPhone, it always delays(sometimes never going) and most the time to make it immediate, I have to push on it and push “send as a text message.” Doesn't matter if I am on wifi or not... Is there a way I can address this? Driving me nuts….

Restart your phone. It's a bug, and restarting it corrects it. I assume they are going to apply a small patch to fix it shortly.

Yep, have done this and it is a quick fix, but goes back to doing it again....DAMMIT!

I have NO IDEA why I did it.....I usually don't.... It was a rash decision while updating all my apps ect.....and just did it without thinking rationally.

I updated a few days ago. My only complaint is that when I look up someone in my contacts, then tap on their phone number to call them, it brings up the text screen to text them. When I go back to contacts and tap their phone number again, it calls them.

STPHNSN23, you need to download an emoji app and then enable that keyboard in the settings menu. There should be directions in the app.

jt09, it spent 3 months in beta. It's a finished product at this point in all aspects. The guinea pigs were the hundreds of thousands of developers and Apple employees, not those who are updating now.

In any event, this issue appears to be server-side, as it wasn't a (widespread) issue before last week. Whatever fix they will issue should put all back in sync.

churchy, the emoji keyboard is available in settings>general>keyboard>language. I would not download any third party keyboard.

On the keyboard, there is a globe (circle with latitude and longitude lines) left of the space key and microphone key. Your graphics should be in there. I'm pretty sure I never downloaded an emoji app.

uh, bullshlt. every major software update goes through beta and qa and every one has bugs when the general public gets ahold of it. same w/ cars and plenty of other things. first adopter simply means first to get pissed off. you wait a couple of months and let them truly shake the bugs out, you're a lot happier w/ the result.

E.J., everyone I talk to that says they hate it tell me they can't find anything. I scratch my head, then tell them "that's odd, everything is in the same place, the icons just look different"

Back in 7th grade I pulled a prank in the typing lab at school. I switched a bunch of keyboards so they lined up ABDEFG instead of QWERTY. The next day, everyone got all confused and couldn't figure out why when they hit "a" they got a "q" instead. In a TYPING class. Laughing

Someone ratted me out, and the teacher had to hold back from laughing when he gave me the don't do it again speech.

Anyhow, my point is that people tend to be visual creatures, and in time the new icon look will become easier to discern.

ya. i hate them, but they're useful to provide tone of voice in a text.

eg: text received "nag nag nag" reply: "yayaya" vs. "yayaya Rolling Eyes" or "yayaya Laughing"

jt09, I've been using the betas since June. The Apple dev program is probably the largest of it's kind in the world - meaning they have more than enough "guinea pigs" (millions, literally). iOS7 has had a very high distribution since then, with untold numbers of devs reporting back bugs and info to Apple.

Using the car reference - they don't put millions of 201X developer edition Corollas on the road prior to launch. Nor does XYZ Widget company or anyone else for that matter. They might have some beta product out there, but nowhere near the distribution that the Apple (or even MSFT) has through it's dev channels.

I'm sorry, but in this case, you are just not accurate. Are there going to be bugs? Sure. As a whole, they are the exception, not the rule. As software launches go, iOS7 has been pretty decent with only 2 issues of any consequence (one of which is already patched).

From a buddy at Apple:

Go into Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off. Then go to Settings > General > Reset and click Reset Network Settings. With that completed, turn iMessage back on.

jt09, am I using a beta version of Android? Windows? Office?

Every software release ever known to man has had some bugs/flaws/holes in it and continues to do so looooonnnnnggg after. They are patched, and continue to be patched as needed until they are no longer relevant. It's the very nature of software.

We are all guinea pigs in that regard. But you are no more a guinea pig for iOS than you are for W7, JellyBean, OSX, etc.

I can say with confidence, that even after you finally decide to update, you will experience something that could be classified as a bug that will probably annoy you, and will require a patch from Apple. The cycle continues...

you're parsing words, and i'm right. it's that simple. early adopters are the guinea pigs that flush out those last couple bugs. you can try and semanticize your way around it, but that's the truth - i don't care how many beta users a company uses or how long the qa/test/beta cycle was. the next software update that comes out w/o bugs will be the first. people like me who wait don't have to deal w/ that crap.

jt09, I'm pointing out to you that the current iOS is very much a finished product - as much so as any major software release out there - all of which had and continue to have visible bugs/flaws/holes well beyond their launch dates. There is no such thing as software without bugs.

So, If you are going to wait until they "flush out those last couple bugs", well you are going to wait a long ass time, because they are not all fixed within a few months of launch. Hell, MSFT issues security patches and software updates (many are major/critical) every month that nobody ever hears (or cares) about until they are swearing at their computer because it restarted the night before. If you read through on some of the vulnerabilities and flaws that get patched each time you may not use your computer for anything secure ever again.

Anyhow, my central point to all of this was that at least in the case of iOS, they had a massive beta distribution and the extreme majority of the bugs were squashed prior to the finalized product - the GM. On top of that, the particular bug referenced in this thread, doesn't even appear to be a user-side bug, rather a server-side one as it didn't truly materialize until last week, and does not affect all users (one out of the dozen or so phones I support has had this problem).

Enjoy your extended time with iOS6. BTW: iOS6 will not get any more security updates, which means if vulnerabilities are found, they will not be patched. My advice to you would be to update at 7.0.3 next week, and not look back.

i will wait til around nov1, which i don't consider to be a long ass time. there's nothing for me to gain by upgrading any sooner. i've never bought a 1st gen anything, and it's served me well. i'd rather ej and ohsix be annoyed than me. somehow i doubt my phone will fall apart in the next month.

I updated the day of. I have not seen any issues other than music my GF had downloaded is being uploaded to icloud and keeps showing up in my music on the phone. So far IOS7 has surpassed my expectations. Felt like I have a whole new phone.

On another note, Bubb Rubb apples warranty. Somehow lint has gathered under my camera lens on my iphone 5. Because my screen is cracked they consider the warranty voided. WTF, fix my lens!!! Leave the screen alone. I spend around 5K-10K per year with Apple and your going to give me stuff and not fix my lens because the screen is cracked???

/end rant

I bought the 5s the first day it came out and upgraded the Ios on 2 4S's and 2 ipads and have had no issues with any of them. I can text, send emails, play on the internet, and make the occasional call if I'm forced to just fine.

MMmmmmmmmmm jellybeans and guinea pigs....................

I had the same text problems and finally did a Google search to see WTF was going on. The text thing isn't really a "bug." It is just that, for whatever reason, the iOS7 default settings are different than the iOS6 settings were for SMS messages. Lots of known things that might be "bugs" or just annoyances addressed in these articles:

Settings>Mail,contacts,calendars>default alert times

This only sets the default times for events set on the device without a specific alert time. i.e. If you enter an event from Outlook with a alert time set, it will use that time.

It sounds like an error, not a setting. I have never had the screen lock up. Have you tried a reboot? Are you running the latest iOS?

This.

I just went through all of the settings I could think of and cannot find any that would affect this situation.

What do you have your passcode timeout set to? Immediate? 1 minute?
